I think the price point and source of the marble (cheap Chinese vs fine Italian) would make a big difference in the quality of the material. The ability of the tile cutter/installer would also come into play.

I would not accept chipped or crooked edges if I had used good quality tiles and a competent installer.

Did you source hire and pay for a top skilled tile and stone artisan or get the affordable clown. Look in the mirror before proceeding as the affordable crew likely doesnt have the skill to polish edges prooerly. To late now.

This should all have been spelled out in the detail scope of contract beforehand.

Rczap, I agree with Dragonfly that you need to post some pictures so we'll see what you're talking about. You should absolutely talk to the contractor, and soon, but wait until you get some helpful opinions from some of the people on these boards. Then you'll be armed with knowledge about what is reasonable for you to expect, and what is within acceptable limits.
