Hi Leslie! Do you have photos of or links to the swatches you're considering? And are there other items in the room you are committed to keeping (chairs, draperies, etc.)?

Looking at in the grade A or B fabrics. Possibly Heathered Twill, Basketweave Slub ash..or Everydayvelvet. Neutral colors. The room is a blank slate. Just the walls and carpet as shown. Not sure if that helps.

Pick a fabric that speaks to you that works with your carpet. Repaint your walls if needed. Don't make something as temporary and as replaceable as paint carry so much weight.

So you picked the wall colour, but the carpet colour is what the house came with? Or did you pick both? I'm asking because if you picked both, you probably like gray and beige together (a combo I like), but you'll want to bring them together, if not in the upholstery fabric, then in throw pillows and/or draperies. Like you, I would be inclined to keep the sofa upholstery pretty plain so you can add pattern with smaller elements. But that's just my personal preference for simplicity. How will the velvet wear? Velvets don't always go the distance, but I don't know enough about that particular product to know if it's pretty sturdy. Also, your walls and carpet are both fairly light, so you may want to go a bit darker for the sofa fabric, especially if you want a more formal look.

First, change the carpet, or change the wall color. Yikes. Not every room is destined for gray. Especially with builder beige carpet.

I will probably throw a rug over this carpet as well.

Are you close to a PB store? They have small swatches of fabric you can take home. Or call the 1-800 # and have them send to you.

The performance velvet is kinda like what we used to call "ultrasuede".
It wears like iron, so it's not fussy like a "real" velvet, but still looks sort of "velvety" ...

Here is a slipcovered sectional in the Everyday Velvet Buckwheat. We've had it about 4 years and it has held up extremely well. I've spot cleaned with a damp cloth and also with a Tide stain pen and the stain just disappears. You can also machine wash. I would definitely purchase this fabric again.

This is what I narrowed it down to. Buchanan couch in basketweave and Irving armchair in everydayvelevet, with the Lorain coffee tables. I'll also purchase a rug and pillows etc. Any thoughts? love all this help!

I really like the basket weave color with your wall, but not your carpet. Same for the chair.

I really think what's holding you back is the carpeting.

Just putting a rug over it is not really ideal.

Can you rethink the carpet issue?

I wish I could change carpet :( but it's part of the home we purchased. The rest of the wood is like this.

Nice! Why can't you either get rid of the carpet OR, at least go to a carpet outlet and get a remnant of something better for that room...

If you can afford PB furniture, you can afford to change the carpet. Sorry, just being real.

You could pick a remnant that doesn't have that high pile that shows every footstep and vacuum trail.

An area rug will not look good over that carpet.

People will not see how great your new furniture is because they will be wondering why you didn't do something about the ugly carpeting.

Leslie, I understand the $$$ issue of replacing a houseful of new carpeting...I'm guessing you may do something different down the road, but in the meantime, I'd go with the darker upholstery on the left for the sofa and perhaps a print that combines the gray and beige for the chair, or maybe even an accent colour, rather than the light gray. And then find some throw cushions and accessories that have all three colours in them. What are you doing with draperies?

You could also have some accessories that mix matte gold and silver in one piece. Personally, I would not spend the money on an area rug over your wall-to-wall...I would opt to spend that money on draperies or other details that unite the colours. Your wood floors are really nice btw.

Leslie- I think the dark color looks good with the wall color and your rug. You could get a smaller accent rug to just put under your coffee table, glass hopefully -to tie in colors along with drapes and pillows. W/W carpet doesn't last long then you can get something different.

Is this carpet just in the room that butts up to the hardwood floors? I didn't see where it was mentioned that is was through the whole house. I thought we were talking about just one room.

Everyday velvet wears well. I have 2 sofas in buckwheat, they look brand new. Spills wipe off easily with a damp cloth.

Yes the carpet is just in the rooms. I'm okay with the neutral carpet. It's cozy and soft and plan is just to put a throw rug over it. The decision I'm having a hard time with is the fabric colors for the sofa. I think tying it all together with pillows and accessories will be easy. It's for our front semi formal living room, want it to be inviting and functional.

Have the PB design person bring the swatches to your house and see what her ideas are. It's hard for us to tell just from the photos. As others stated, the velvet wears really well so I wouldn't be concerned about that.

I know some of the linen weave fabrics have had complaints about pilling and they will sell a gadget that removes the pills but frankly the velvet is soft and comfy; I'd pick that for my sofa....
