Sorry. The sofa does not look like a chesterfield, we were confused. A darker print rug (as shown above) would help. The sheers you picked would look good, just make sure that they are not skimpy. I would replace the art for something softer as you suggested.

why do you have so much seating????

it looks more like a showroom, i think if you add pillows and remove the black or gray couch and leave more space it will look better

no offense to your art but its not working at all with the chairs and the wall.

it MIGHT work if you framed it in lets say, gold or silver and accented similar shade pillows to tie in everything

otherwise, the drapes seem lovely.......

I can move the artwork to a different room. Unfortunately can't be reframed, it is a dear friend Peter Ruprecht whose work is worth quite a bit and it submerged in acrylic- it is a photo of a Pakistani couple praying. Just having trouble understanding what the room needs. I'm excited to move the furniture around as you suggested. I was actually thinking of keeping things very soft and muted, so was considering doing a sisal- could that work?really don't love the color of the floors and we can't change them, so was hoping the sisal would cover as much as possible. This is my dream living room in photo below:

i think if you moved the art work a bit to the left and moved the couch to the left too, it would look nice.

you reallllllllly need drapes to tie the beautiful artwork and couches together in that case. because right now theres too much white from the walls and window frames competing with other colors

1. Remove the chaise since it is going anyway, you have enough seating, it is crowded.

2. Place sofa where chairs are and about 6" pulled away from the wall. (Remove throw and two pillows from sofa, you are covering up the Chesterfield part.)

3. Place chairs where the chaise is, facing where you will move the sofa to.

4. Place chairs slightly further apart - they are too close, and flank with end tables on either side. (LOVE those 1940s end tables.)

5. No you don't need other seating.

6. Art work is too hard and harsh for now, but keep it there because after you add a rug and curtains, the space will soften and the contrast might be welcome. If you need more seating, add an upholstered bench under the artwork.

7. Yes to a sisal rug. No to a pattern.

8. Yes to floor to ceiling curtains, light breeze sheers with slight pattern, color of two chairs.

9. If you put a throw over the arm of one of the chairs, make it dark. A few dark accessories will ground this and bring together the black tables and black in the artwork.

Also, looks like artwork might be hung too low. Look up rules for height. I think middle of work should be 57" from the ground if I am remembering correctly. Doesn't work in all spaces, but a formula that works in most.

I would get unobtrusive floor lamps like a pharmacy light, maybe on either side of the sofa, maybe in brass to highlight the brass in coffee table and on the 1940s end tables.

The sofa is beautiful now that you have the close-up pic! I would keep those additional pillows to the sides so the pintucking is visible.

More pics. Sad that so many feel these chairs are too large for the couch. Maybe it was the vantage I was photographing from yesterday? Hoping it isn't true. Spent a fortune on these Baker chairs. Maybe pillows will help them look smaller? Going to try and order a sisal tomorrow if everyone thinks that's a good plan. The sheers would be really pretty, but to get the pinch pleat look I'm after, I think I will have to use wool or linen. Favorite fabrics for drapes? Below is a pic of what I ❤️. I can do the shears on the small windows next to my front door in the same room. Also, was thinking of doing the drapes in cream to keep things simple. Agree?

Drapes you love look like lined linen. Wait on drapery until you are sure of furniture placement. The thing about sisal you need to know is it sheds and is rough on bare feet. Kind of like a front door mat. I much prefer a wool. Pier 1 has some great deals. Your fav room has all small scale furniture. The Baker chairs are beautiful but just too deep and big for your room. Your arrangement with sofa between living and dining is better but with sofa on window side your chairs fit much better. Just angle them toward each other. I will be back later with some further ideas.

The art is unique and special. Would it fit in the dining room? Could you post the room measurements for me. I have an idea for a space plan. Also, post size of coffee table, length and depth of sofa and depth and width of chairs. I can do a scale drawing for you. Just do a rough sketch of the space so I understand the orientation of the spaces and where the front door is. Lots of potential here. We will help you get to a positive result. I will check back tomorrow.

One more note: have you tried mirroring as well? I personally like the back of armchairs facing the entrance as you can see through them to the couch. Same idea with the back of the couch facing the wall with two window. Just an idea. :)

I don't know, i really don't have a problem with the chairs and couch combo. on the art, it is original, it is special, so it fits anywhere you put it. I too do not like sisal.

curtains aare probably linen. and sheers are always beautiful imo. part of the reason you get those wonderful pinch pleats is also how they are hung.

I have been playing around with layout arrangements and have come up with this idea.

Angle your sofa between across the window corner. Plant in corner behind sofa. Keep art where it is for now. Then move the chairs to the left and right of sofa angled toward the sofa. This arrangement does several things. It gives the round coffee table room to breath and the chairs will feel more in scale with the space. You could place those small end tables as I have shown. An 8 x 10 rug would fit this arrangement. The 10' length would run across the room. The 8' side from painting to the entry area. This also opens the space to the dining room. A word on window treatments. I would keep it simple. Nice Roman Shades in a linen would be my choice and then let the rug have some fun. A floor lamp behind the chair on the right side of room would bring additional lighting into your space. Something with a black shade to help integrate the artwork. Two small black lumbar pillows (velvet) for the two chairs would help bring everything together. On a budget, check out Pier 1 for rugs. They have some really great rugs in 8 x 10s many in wool that would be great for your room. Hope that helps!

If you keep the art where it is, then repeat the black two more times in your space. So a shade on a floor lamp would be one and a couple pillows (with texture like velvet) for the backs of your chairs.

I would do a simple light color (similar to chair color) Roman Shade. Try looking at JCPenney.com They have moderate quality at very good pricing especially when on sale and they have 30% off sale going on right now. Here is example.

Before I found this wonderful group, I already purchased the Annette floor lamp in brass from Ralph Lauren and it is in the mail:/ this is a picture. I can certainly do velvet pillows on the chairs. This was a fabric I had found that I had loved. Like or no? I went up to Stark in Connecticut and walked on the sisals and found them very interesting/comfortable for my feet- so if comfort no issue, do you think the sisaI would look good? There was one wool carpet that I had found at a local manufacture that mills beautiful wools for Stark and the like and I pictured it below next to the sisal.

The first rug suggested with an oriental gray print would be great, especially with your fabric choice for your draperies. A sisal rug will be another solid and won't add much interest. Your cream chairs are fine with the couch! I like the arrangement where the cream chairs are opposite each other and the end tables are beside them. The art work is the big problem. 1) it doesn't go with the style, it needs to be warmer' and 2) you need more art work. People often make the mistake of leaving the walls too bare. It makes a huge difference!! Also once you assessorize the coffee table and end tables, that will add a lot too. The straight back chairs (2) don't work for me. Too many pairs, and the look like dining room chairs in the living room. You've got good stuff to work with. I think you'll do great!!

In working with your art, it has big blocks of dark tones. You are selecting all neutrals with no blocks of color. A block of color with a big pillow in dark color for the backs of your chairs would really help. You need black in your lamp. Or in some noticeable tall vase?

Oh. Just saw you have reading lamp coming. Your room can use lighting so let’s see how that works and go from there! ;)

Here are a couple of examples of using black to tie in art. Notice lamps, black pillows in chair and end tables all repeat the black or very dark woods.

Back to your rug choice. The sisal goes very casual, almost outdoor like and your chairs and sofa are more refined. I would select a nice wool rug, and if you don't want color stick with an off white. Or a tone on tone selection.

Maybe something with a tone on tone pattern. Like this rug.

You might want to go to a carpet store, and look at their tone on tone carpeting. You can get a strip cut or maybe a remnant cut to the exact size you want and have them blind bind it (so the binding doesn't show) and this works really well, plus usually less expensive than other ready made choices.

You have a unique room started. I like the tall hostess chairs because they're totally unexpected. What doesn't work for me is the art.

So it's not hodgepodge - if there's blue in chair fabric, and lamp - ? It's solid.

Gold relating to wood floor, and gold table - nothing new/ conflicting in a way - is it like the chair enough?.... your art is your choice, and so neutral ok....!

What is so wrong with your neutral furniture? -- is that what sample fabric is for....? I wouldn't add another vibe, or another pattern to the mix -- if keeping your art: as said, it's enough!!! :)

Sombug can you put the end table between the two baker chairs? I would try that and separate them a little more and angle slightly towards each other. Pull all of it closer to the plant, including the sofa side. Then out the two tall chairs together on the side of the room the half wall is on
