Put in two recliners.

Reading/coffee nook with a couple comfy chairs and lots of plants (it's off the kitchen, you could do lots of herbs). What I wouldn't give for those windows for my houseplants! Depending how the family life works, I could also see a nice little office space or sewing/craft/homework area.

Something for a nap in the sun, in addition to recliners or other comfy chairs?

It is just my husband and I most of the time. We normally have only small groups in for entertaining.

i wouldnt use it either! 'its bringing nothing new to the picnic' during the day, and i'm sure at night it feels like a cold black hole. it needs window treatments so that at night its cozy and not all those black rectangles.

I agree drapes or roman shades for nightime would make it feel better , the view is awesome . Where do you feed your guests when they come? I think with a bit of decor it might become more inviting.

Maybe two big comfy chairs at each end of the table so you would want to sit in there. Or if you don't use the table, make it another sitting room with 4 comfy chairs around a coffee table.

I think it needs some fabric and texture from a rug, drapery, baskets, plants, pottery etc. Plants would grow like crazy-my mom has jasmine growing in her sunroom and it smells incredible.

That is where I would drink my coffee in the am and it would be hard to leave.

I would have 4 matching comfy chairs with either a nice coffee table in the center or a beautiful ottoman. Trays make a nice option for serving coffee, drinks or desserts. If you do a coffee table it's possible to find one that can be raised to one that may be more suitable to a dining height and if you go that route then I'd also have a couple chairs that you place off in a corner. Perhaps an upholstered parsons style in a fabric to blend with the other chairs. The space would then lend itself well for casual entertaining especially since your entire space is so open. You can do a buffet from the island in your kitchen and the narrow wall between the family room and dining room is a lovely area to either decorate for holidays or perhaps even use as an add'l serving area. If you do go with 4 chairs placement is important. They should be placed on the diagonal with each one in a a corner if possible. It gives the impression that the room is larger than it really is. Since I'm not sure of the dimensions from the picture its difficult to tell how it would work but might be worth a try. I'd also suggest a large rug underneath, round might be a nice option but try out different shapes to see what looks best......Nan Schnabel, Must Designs, Canton MI
