Are sofas espresso, burgundy? I was wondering if a chalk paint on the table? Current sofas seem similar to earthy sage, spicy gold [soft mustard?].... do you need to get rid of them? maybe a new look would do it!!

IMO the style of your sofas is dated , leather on the other hand never goes out of style . I think sectional are the worst possible choice for seating i have never enjoyed sitting all lined up in a row for conversation 2 sofas or a sofa and 2 chairs is always a better choice.. You can really get leather in any color you like it just always seems to me on this site everyone has brown or black leather . I think a sof sage green in eithr would be a nice color.

West elm has some really nicely scaled sectionals. I love this Andes style and am purchasing the sofa. They have several leather and fabric choices and are also on sale right now.

I think a corner sectional would be really nice in this room.

I would also suggest plain drapes in a lighter color. Your room is very nice.

Also, if you go on the west elm desktop site you can see photos posted of how people styled the west elm stuff in their homes. I find those pictures more helpful than just the WE photos.

It's all about scale for your room so measure and tape out on the floor the dimensions for each piece. Take into consideration seat height and back height as well. And ideally you really need to sit/ see it in person first.

One more point. Your current rug doesn’t have front legs of furniture on the rug. So if you do sectional, tape out from about 6” under legs leaving 12” back from hearth. Assess how you currently come into your space. Right now you appear to be able to come in from both left and right sides. A sectional will close probably right side off. Do you plan on being in this house for 5 more years? Sectionals are almost always trouble placing in next house/home. Helps if sides of pieces are finished and joining devices are under pieces rather than on sides. You have a lovely table behind long sofa now. Measure that height and length if you want to use with new pieces. It is always a good idea to do a scale drawing of your space and bring all your measurements with you when shopping. Good luck.

Sectionals are difficult to work with. If you like moving your furniture around a sectional will not be your best choice.

How about 2 sofas facing each other flanking the fireplace?

Seems like everyone has provided some good/interesting points. I always love the look Melissa just posed about two sofas facing each other with the fireplace centered, but I also think you should consider how the room is used. Is it the family hang out area, TV/entertainment room, or just used occasionally for social gatherings? I often tell clients to try two sofas facing each other for staging when listing a property, but it’s not always practical for every day use. I’d also consider, like Flo said, trying something more in line with your style and with a smaller profile to better match the room’s dimensions. You’ve got a lot of rich browns already (built-ins, beams overhead, table) so I’d personally stay away from matching those. Sometimes a little contrast can be the key. A nice white, beige or even colored fabric might help lighten up the room a bit. I’ve always liked mid-century modern. Here’s a few different looks you might consider:

Melissa Gallagher. Wondering if you have experience with West Elm sofas... comfort, durability, etc. I'm seriously considering the Andes sofa you recommends.

I have not sat on it. I saw one at the outlet near me in the gray velvet but it was wrapped in plastic and sold so I couldn't sit on it. I live about 2 hrs from the store and the woman I spoke with has the sofa and loves it. She said it's not super cushy, but not hard....it's in between.

I want comfort, but I don't want it to look sloppy in a few months. I'm Leary of buying something I haven't sat on.....
