You know, I've actually thought of using this as an espalier against a fence where I have trouble keeping plants watered (the soil is almost pure sand and impossible to keep wet in the summer).

But then,you lose most of the flowers. Still,that glossy look is nice. I've seen it walled up against a business's building- so they covered a big area. Must take lots of pruning.

I should drive by and see if its in flower too.

It can spread rather aggressively and rampantly. That is its one drawback. Hummers do love it.

Its really good for covering large areas with minimal effort- and give you an exotic look. I can see this and Agave attenuata on a soucal hillside,by the beach even.

We had a monster one in the property we recently bought (over 30 ft tall). We tried significantly cutting it back but the growth rate was insane, I got tired of biweekly clipping sessions so we finally chainsawed the beast to the ground, drilled holes in the stump below the ground and put Round Up into the holes. It still set out shoots even after that for a while, but seems to be finally dead at this point.
