pine beetles?

I have had these before and cut trees dwon, I like to catch earlier, to prevent spreading and it is easier to cut trees down when small. Are these pine beetle tubes or sap? Is this normal amout of dead needles for fall? Last picture is two other trees with no signs of pine beetles, is amount of dead leaves normal for fall as well?

interior yellowing.. and eventual browning and falling off is normal ... and increased by a multitude of stresses the year or two prior ...

the key is that none of it is this past years growth .. if you look closely at the bark.. starting from the buds ... you can see each years growth based on bark maturation ...

UGA ... shall we presume GA???

a good place to start.. would be to ID the pine ....

i will leave the bug questions to others ....

interesting in the second pic.. how it seems to be leaning away from the pond ... wonder why ....

Stem canker -- not sure what causes them. As long as it doesn't grow larger and girdle the trunk, it isn't a reason to cut down the tree. The amount of brown needles is normal this time of year.

Nice pines -- not sure what species they are, maybe loblollies......
