Sure - I use polyester thread for piecing all the time. :)

Hi Fran! I use Superior's Bottom Line in all my bobbins, both piecing machine and quilting machine, and it's poly. So, I'd say yes.

Is the embroidery thread a heavier weight? I was searching for a special colour in my thread collection and I remembered being at a Floriani workshop where we were given a box of goodies, with spools of thread in there. Didn't have the colour I wanted but now I wonder what to do with these spools. Can I just use them as regular thread in piecing and quilting??

Usually thread designed for machine embroidery is finer due to the density of the stitches in ME. The bobbin thread is even finer than the emb. thread. But like Toolgranny, I use ME bobbin thread for piecing. (Mainly b/c I bought a gross of prewound bobbins at a show and don't to ME any more.)
