How about porcelain wood-look tiles? [houzz=]

I have bamboo floors in my office, which I chose for ecological reasons. However, if I had to do it again, while I like the idea of them, I would not put them in a high traffic area - also your steam mop may not do the bamboo many favours...
I agree with bobbi - ceramic floor tiles that look like wood are so well done these days that you can get away with putting wood and tiles together and not notice the difference... (you need always ask about the print pattern - the wider it is the less chance of obvious repeats)
