Small kitchen remodel/addition

last modified: 8 years ago

I have a small kitchen remodel. The craftsman style home is nestled alongside a Forest in the Northwest. I have bigger ambitions for a major addition/remodel but for now I am looking to add a small kitchen on the lower level (of a two level home) that will allow us to have in-laws, family & friends over for extended stays.

Providing pictures of the major sections of the house so you can see the style.

Front door entry.

Upstairs kitchen - we love it. Deck just outside the door.

Upstairs living room with working fireplace.

Upstairs bathroom

Lower level bedroom with deck that we would like to convert to a kitchen (the 8 x 8 deck would become the kitchen). We would also remove a wall (right side in this view) that would open up the small bedroom and turn it into a downstairs living room. The French door would be removed an the wall to the deck (kitchen) opened up.

Original Inspiration for layout.

Inspiration - would like to maximize window space

Rough layout for 6' 11' x 7' 11' kitchen. It shrank! (with fridge/stove top on left and sink on 7'11" wall). We are looking at 24" wide appliances (vs 30") so it is a better fit. Also looking at a 42" wide x 41" tall wood window that would be centered to the sink. The upstairs is all wood floors and the downstairs has Berber carpet. Planning to install wood floors in new downstairs kitchen.

Rough layout with stove top on left and sink/fridge on 7'11" wall. This arrangement seems to provide a better flow (the layout above seems like it will be very cramped on the 6'11" wall).

Once we put pencil to paper we realized that this was much more challenging than we initially thought. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (layout, style, etc).
