4K Television Subscription?

Anyone have any experience with 4K services - DirecTV, Netflix, etc? My last 2 sets have 4K capability but I can't get 4K programming without subscribing to that quality of service. DTV & Netflix have it but they're not showing a lot of information about specific programming. That makes me question whether or not it's worth it.

TIA

I've seen it and think it's no big deal. When watching normal content from a disk, are you impressed by the higher definition of BluRay than normal DVD? To me, it's about like that.

I risk stating the obvious but if you're thinking about content delivered over the internet (like Netflix), be sure your internet capacity is adequate. If you have a base level speed for your connection, it may not be.

The difference between normal DVD and BluRay is 720p vs 1080p. 4K is 2160p. I think twice the level of resolution would be noticeable, especially on the larger sets.

I see more of a 3-D effect on my 4K 50" Samsung that I did on my 40(?)" Sony Bravia. Same COMCAST service. (Also much better sound quality, though that's not due to the 4K)

    YMMV

Very few 4K offerings even on things that can deliver it. Dish is pretty much limited to some of the PPV movies. There's not yet any regular 4K TV sources. Hopefully this situation will improve over time unlike the 3D stuff (I still have a 3D TV that there is now ZERO content since ESPN pulled their 3D channel).

Amazon Prime lists several videos in 4K, I haven't noticed a lot of difference between it and HD.

Not a technophile here but it doesn't seem that there's a lot of original stuff shot in 4k. I see older titles with 4k designation but I'm guessing the picture has been up scaled much like your 4k TV already does with the video signal. (I know I'm butchering the technology with my over simplified explanation.)

Motion pictures were all downsampled for even hi def TV. There should be little problem in creating real 4K. As I said, the PPV movies are about the only thing on Dish. You'd have to see how much made-for-tv sources are upgraded to 4K.

i watched a video on 8k tv recently. for use with photo editing stuff so mostly smallish monitors. say 32"? and viewed at 3' distance. i think most folks with so-so eyesight will not notice any benefit with 4k at a 15' viewing distance. whats the point? now, the monitor mounts that hold the screen over your head in bed seem awesome. screen is 3-4' away but i would not like a 200lb monitor to fall on my head.

We upgraded our DirecTV package to 4K this week. Had to get three new pieces of equipment - Genie 2 and 2 mini receivers - for our 2 TVs. Cost for this was $99. My monthly plan costs did not go up. There is one full time 4K channel that shows stuff like concerts, nature shows, Blue Planet, and an occasional free movie. They do have a 4Kfree live Olympics channel broadcasting each day for 6 hours.
