What a nice house and yard you have to work with!

First, I would get big, black house numbers and put them above the garage door, in a horizontal orientation. It makes them easier to read, like text. This will make it easier for guests or emergency services to find you.

Now, you say you would like gray paint, a black door, and cream or black shutters. Paint the rain gutters and downspouts the same as the siding.

Is there a place you can put some bright color? Maybe window boxes on the window above the garage and the one with the air conditioner? They should be the same width as the window.

Your house looks strangely Japanese - I love the grey and the green and the muted but gentle feel that it conveys.
Like eztia I would also suggest painting your gutters black. I would probably change your lettering to stainless steel or some metal colour (and the vertical placement is quite Japanese). I would switch the colours of shutters to an off-white or ecru just to mute everything more.
THEN I would add a bright red front door as the contrast. Nice and simple.

etzia, look in the tree, there appears to be moss there too! But you are right, I said remove it, not the tree. And the husband wants the black door, but 503 is undecided.

This is a great home to come home to. It's easy when we live in the same place to see it as blah. Most people are going to find themselves doing a bit of that. Lots of good suggestions here. I like all the great color ideas so that seems covered.

Since the garage is easy to work in, without disturbing the family, I might say to put a trellis/pediment across the top of the garage door in the front and add a couple hanging lantern lights, on the same outdoor timer as the rest, somewhere in between mission and Asian styles. Electrical work from inside the garage could be bid for less money since they have time/ability to open the walls without bothering anyone.

I will remove the moss as I have heard it isn't good for the tree. What do you think about changing the window trim at the top? I am not fond of the shape. I was thinking of squaring it off or painting it the color of the house to make it "disappear."

Hi 503 I haven't used Chelsea grey so cannot give advice on that. I love your home and the interior. It is a very welcoming environment. Before you remove the moss off the tree do check how bad it would be to keep it. I find it so beautiful, but safety first of course.

Honestly, the only thing I'd change besides the colors you want to change, is the garage door. Love the idea of the mission/asian light fixture and the pergola trim over the garage door. your house is lovely inside and really rather lovely on the outside too

leave the moss on stonework, its safe there and really pretty

Moss green is my favorite color. Have never seen a paint chip that actually looks like that color though...

I really want the exterior to reflect the exterior, but after looking at hundreds of photos and driving around, I have not seen anything that fits. I never thought of a rust or red. I'll present this idea to my husband.

@503kim. After reading all the comments, I have changed my mind. No window boxes. If the driveway is on the north side of the house, no pergola - you need the snow to melt. Otherwise, I like the pergola idea.

I love red, but definitely not for your house. I'll bet that would be the least voted for color (for your lovely home) if you were to poll people here. What I see when I look at your house is tranquility.

I like these 2 grey houses, but don't know if they work for my home. I also love the window trim in the 1st picture.

If it can be done well, with proper flashing and sealing, then I'd love that window trim profile. It would look great on your house. But please don't lose the board and batten, it works well with your arts and crafts style with a mix of Asian.

The window trim style in the first photo looks very close to the window trim on the second floor at the back of your home. I like it, too.

You have a lovely home! Inside it is a sophisticated eclectic style. Dark grey exterior with white trim & accents of black will definitely carry that through. Consider painting the mullions black. Personally, the board & batten shutters don't look sophisticated. If you want to keep shutters, consider a paneled style. If you upgraded the garage door at the same time, it would make a huge difference. And I think the current window trim adds character, but I realize when it's your home, you want to make changes that will make it feel more like "you."

I do think because your "front" entrance is recessed, you have a bit of challenge. It looks like there is a paneled section of wall under the closest window. Would it make sense for you to paint that the same color as the door - so it gets included visually as part of the entrance? Would it make it more important, so to speak? I can't tell from the photos.

I've caught up with the comments since last night and just wanted to say that the drawback of Houzz is that it is very easy to see other "design" photos and feel insecure about the design decisions one has made.

You really should not be. There are a lot of people here who have excellent design eyes who have given you great compliments.

My advice is to proceed slowly but surely as you make your changes - if any. There is nothing worse than "pressure to improve" when in fact there may be nothing to be improved... so exercise a careful triage of what you will do and what you will consider doing later... This is a lovely home and all the best cherishing it and living in it.

Fellow 503er: You're ok with leaving moss on the tree unless you just don't like it. Hand pick it off. It's only a problem if it gets really heavy on weak branches.

Speaking of moss, what about a soft green door? Or a nice coral? (noticed you had that in your house)

I really like the platinum gray tone on the body of your house and your original inquiry said - new trim and shutter color. . I would probably bargain with my husband and give him black shutters (since the black door looks so good) in exchange for window boxes for the front two windows. The warmth of the base color I like better than chelsea gray but when you guys paint everything, you might try it out with charcoal shutters and a chinese red door.

@503kim. You have been given many suggestions. It might be a good time to take a step back and think about what is the most important change you want to make. I think your house is beautiful as it is.

Thank you all for the wonderful ideas...and magspag, I totally agree. The painters come to prep on Tuesday and I have decided to go with Chelsea Gray with a darker shade of gray (charcoal-ish) or black shutters and a creamy white trim. The door will be Black or a shade of red. Yea!! I will post pictures when it is done.
