German Shrunk/Schranke Wall Unit?

My in laws bought this 7’ piece from a Belgium antique shop while living there in the 80’s...they have asked me to sell it for them(redecorating). I believe it’s a German Shrank/Shrunk from the 70’s but no one seems to know for sure-and EVERYONE PRONOUNCES IT WRONG;) Any ideas? Thanks!

Correct name/spelling in German is Schrankwand, easiest English phonetic spelling is shrunk vund, literally means 'closet wall' or 'armoire wall' but dictionary definition equivalent to our 'wall unit'.

I've seen them before in the Chicago area where they had been imported by various furniture stores that catered to the German and Polish communities. Quality was all over the place. Some were well built with hardwoods while others were particle or other wood board products with nice looking veneer. The cheaper ones tended to sag over the years. Yours doesn't seem to have that problem.

Yes, it’s a ‚Schrankwand‘. Almost every German family had one in their living room in the eighties. Yours seems to be a good quality, the flamed mahogany veneer looks high end.

My mom has this same piece in her living room today. My father was military so we traveled alot. He was stationed in Germany during the 70s-80s. I'd like to know more about it. Thank you.

It is worth about 3-4 thousand dollars in good shape, providing it is real wood.
