Thanks Sabrina -- That's a good idea, but the way the we order the boxes through IKEA is to "delete" the doors and drawers (to avoid cost + waste). So we won't have "temp doors".

Because of the extent of our remodel, we won't be using our kitchen during this time. My concern is more about making challenges we might run into installing the Semihandmade pieces like panels and fillers once we already have the boxes assembled and installed and the perhaps the countertops installed too!

Got it. Well, it's probably not what you want to hear, but I wouldn't template the countertops or do the tile until those pieces are in place. If it's a matter of a few weeks, it's probably worth it to avoid potential re-dos down the road.

No counters or backsplsh but no reason not to install boxes you would do that anyway before installing doors.

I would prefer to do the messy stuff before the doors go on, anyway. It’s what I’ve always done.

I would want the fillers first, but not the rest. I would even just space for the panels, if they only go to the toe kick.

Tape a piece of molding to the cabinet ends with a note to the top templater that "end panel goes here" if you're feeling lucky.

Just curious because we are considering an IKEA / Semihandmade route, how long of a lead time is it? I was under the impression Semihandmade was pretty fast. The main reason we are considering IKEA is because of the speed compared to some local cabinet places. I'm just not sure how much I love their doors.

I use Ikea alot in my biz but the doors can be a bit more on the modern side for some people most of my design work is contmporary so no problem. As for the box install it is always done right after flooring and the doors go on when everything else is done.

I have done the blended Ikea cabinets with custom doors, twice. Once I did your approach of no-fronts but instead waited for the doors to arrive. In the other case, I ordered the really cheap doors (currently called Haggeby and only a few dollars per door) so I could use them while saving up for the custom doors. It also gave me the opportunity to realize that some of the bases that I had set up for doors would be better with drawers, so I ordered the extra parts and didn’t waste money on less usable custom doors in those cabinets. I used the Ikea measurements to order the custom components from drawer depot online, and the hardware that came with the fronts/doors, saving money and hassle. Yes, there is some $ wasted by getting the cheap fronts first but for me it was worth it in terms of refining the design. Plus I could play with various knobs and pulls to see which I liked best.
