Is this a true PLATFORM bed?

I've been scouring the internet for a PLATFORM BED. That is, a bed that DOES NOT require a box spring. I've looked at plenty but most of them say it requires a box spring. even though though it says it's a platform style bed. So, it this particular bed a PLATFORM bed. How far apart are the panels? Is it meant to work with a box spring or can it work with just a mattress?

It tells you need a box spring and mattress so what is your question.

I had a look at the link, and it says that a box spring is recommended for that bed. There are, however, plenty of beds further down the page that are true platform beds. Like this one:

Have a look at that one, and the related products. Or go to a specialized bedroom furniture store. I have two platform beds, and had no trouble finding them. But I prefer to shop in person for things like beds, mattresses and sofas, just to be sure the size and comfort level are what I expect.

Look at the website for this item. There are 3 views and the middle one shows how the base is constructed. There are not enough slats to support a mattress only. So, NO, this is not a true platform bed.

In true platform beds the base is heavy due to using 2 x 6 or larger lumber. Center support is necessary for any mattress larger than a twin. The height of the platform is decided by the height of the legs/support beneath the platform. Mattress thickness ranges between 5 and 20 inches with most being 10 to 12 inches thick. The final sleeping height is a combination of the height of the platform and the mattress thickness. OK.

There are beds that are a platform bed and only has the mattress. However
this bed apparently requires an additional support. Most Italian beds
are platform beds and only require a mattress.

According to the description, it's recommended to have a box spring, so I would take them at their word.

If you read the description it says it requires a box spring

Cream-colored fabric and a double row of antique brass nail head trim combine to create an elegant all-in-one bed. Low-profile footboard and angle cut, block feet lend a modern air. The padded headboard is built with durability in mind, and offers a comfortable spot for seating a book or watching the morning news. Recommended for use with a queen-size box spring and mattress.

I don't know about the one pictured above - but the colton bed is a platform, and can have many different options (tufting, nailheads, fabrics, leather, finishes on the feet, welting, etc.)

Hello, Thank you for your question! No, this is not a platform bed. A boxspring is required. The slats on this bed are movable, the maximum distance between the slats is 31 7/8".

A real platform bed has just that, a platform that the mattress lies on. It must be a solid surface from front to back and side to side. 3 slats, which regular beds have, are not enough support for a mattress.

I made the mistake of trying to use this without a box spring. And the mattress sags and logs terrible. Definitiely don't try this. They should update the listing for this bed to say it requires a box spring.

Justin - You can contact any mattress and bedding retailer and purchase a bunker board, which will eliminate the sagging between the support rails.

I purchased this bed thinking it is a platform bed that did not require a box spring. I have not received it yet. It's in transit to my place. Should I purchase a box spring?

It looks like you will need a box spring, or a foundation according to the description on the product page - cut and pasted here....

Hello Everyone, As indicated by the vendor Home Fare above, this bed requires a mattress and box spring. The slats on this bed are not sufficient to support a mattress without a foundation. Please refer to the image below. I hope this helps to clarify!
