You are spot on. That would actually look awesome!

I actually think it's pretty cool! I'd focus on changing out the flooring instead, and possibly replacing the front door to something more modern. Instead of light tile on the floor, think about adding a dark stone like slate, or possibly a wood-look porcelain tile. (Careful, though. You don't want to put in wood-look tile on the floor if there is hardwood immediately adjacent to the entryway.) Go with a sleek bench and get a fun, mid-century inspired light fixture for the ceiling in the area adjacent to the skylight. You could even do built-ins on the wall opposite the rock, if you like.

If you don't love the painted rocks, remove them. They can be blasted clean of paint at some expense. Chip off some paint on a few stones to see if you like the natural colors before going deciding.

It would be difficult to cover it- the new drywall would protrude into the foyer quite a bit. I think the only way to get rid of it would be to tear it down. What about painting it black, or dark gray and putting some rustic wood door/sidelights?

i use this suggestion sparingly, but this is one of those times! it doesnt go with the floor or the glass in the entryway. its a patio on the wall!

Thanks everyone!!! We are getting hardwood throughout, taking the rock wall down and refinishing the wall with shiplap, painted a medium grey color.

Wood floor great, but please don’t put shiplap up. THis house does looks like a mid century build and shiplap would be so out of place. I would also replace the door to something more modern if it’s in the budget. This space could b so cool.

It's definitely a mid century home, but we're doing everything we can to rid the house of that feel

Do not use real shiplap in this beautiful space my guess is you are thinking boards on the wall not shiplap but to be honest I would look into something less farmhouse in this space . If it was mine I would commission a huge painting and leave it at that

Define ship lap. It can go mid century, ultra contemporary, farmhouse...

Paneling is fine, shiplap is out of place and I think you'll find that it will be dated in a few years, if it isn't already.

And replace the front door unit with something that's real wood. From here it looks like a steel or fiberglass door with the decorative glass held in by plastic trim.

Take it down and add shiplap

why buy a mid century modern home if all youre going to do is mess it up just to make it the way you want??? there are tons of homes out there for everybody and every style under the sun
woulda been cheaper too

somebody could actually appreciate this very MCM house...even if you want to bulldoze it and make it your way

To be fair, that wall has been painted and painted rock is just not a great look anymore.

Who says the homeowner can't put shiplap up ..she the one that lives there not us she can do what she likes!

Instead of shiplap that will date your house in the very near future, just like those barn doors everyone thought they needed, I would suggest drywall with a large piece of art. Maybe check out www.greatbigcanvas.com. When you remodel, you don't want to have to remodel again in a year or two. Or you might choose removable wallpaper. Shiplap is done. When you remove it, there is a lot of damage to repair to the wall. Just my thoughts.

Take a look at ledgerstone by going to realstone.com You can upload your own pic and try out diffrerent looks. Ledger stone would give nice texture. If you already are putting wood floors in..thats a lot of wood to continue up that wall.

Eeek it looks like a cold entryway to a business office, not a warm home. That's my biggest gripe with MCM
