I agree with Linelle. We replaced three Velux skylights when we redid our roof 2 years ago. The skylights and roof were both 28 years old. There were no leaks what so ever. We replaced them because of their age. We did not want to disturb our new roof if the old skylights finally succumbed to age. We had a Solatube in our old house that never leaked in the 18 years we had it.

You should probably contact the skylight manufacturer and ask for recommended/certified installers in your area.

We added onto our house many years ago...took out the entire E side and extended it to enlarge two bedrooms and a bath. The architect who designed the addition would only recommend Velux 'roof windows' with the Velux flashing kits. This is coastal Washington, we have a lot of rain ;0) No leaks ever. We sold the house a few years ago and there have still been no issues that I've heard of - we moved only a few blocks away, small town. If there had been a problem, I'd likely know it.

hi..I asked for velux skylight in my country isn't available ..a company installsTRIGON) HUECK a German production skylight ..anybody knows or heard such name!!!

    Desertrose,

Where are you located? In Europe, Fakro and Lamilux are popular. Lamilux is expensive but can be totally customized. Make sure you use the manufacturer flashing kit for your skylight. They make a huge difference.

    Good luck!

Buy a name brand and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions to the letter and you'll have no worries.

Another vote for Velux. You will need to buy the coordinating flashing kit from them as well. Their customer service is great and will match any parts and pieces you need and provide model numbers for you to order.

    Kirkarch,

DesertRose is not in the US and says that Velux is not available in her market.

I am surprised you don't have Velux or Fakro. What country are you in again? The Heck seems like a great product too. Did you go with the triple pane?

no ..I ll go with double ..I was told the triple is much more expensive ..on request ..I live in Jordan .. I understand after the renovation that such skylights are not popular in Jordan because in summer it's too hot ..I built an extension and was afraid to lose the light so I agreed with skylight ..they told me they use low e glass to reflect the heat ..and the the light ..in hot climate we need the light not the heat ..

In a warm climate the double pane should be sufficient.

    Congratulations on making a choice!

Where I live it can get hot in the summer. My skylight is inclined to the west. I occasionally open the window on a warm afternoon to vent any heat in the ceiling area, but I almost never activate the blackout shade that comes with it. It's more due to an irritating glare than heat gain.
