I never met Carl, but I always enjoyed his posts. Although he lived in New Jersey, he considered himself to still be a New Englander and he never lost his connection with us - coming to plant swaps here and contributing in many ways to our community.

He will be missed. Thanks, Jane, for posting this.

Thanks for letting us know, Jane. I loved his thoughtful posts, which often showed a nice sense of humor. I learned a lot from him over the years, and will miss his presence here, though we haven't heard from him often in the last couple of years.

I met Carl for the first time at a Connecticut garden swap and remember the time when he brought a delicious white wine to one of our swaps and, therefore, started a "wine tradition"! Yes, his car was always packed with so many plants to share ... he wouldn't let you go home without taking some of them. He was generous with his garden knowledge and fun to be around.

Thanks, Claire, good choice. It was at the flower show in Philadelphia that I first met Carl. Once he knew we were going, he insisted on meeting us at the front door and showing us 'the ropes'. He did so much more in life and touched so many souls than what can be said here. I have it on good authority that colors in the next realm are much brighter and more numerous. He'll like that.

Claire, after his post about the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show I contacted Carl for info about attending ... best time ... best places to stay ... etc. He provided great information because he cared deeply about gardening and organizations that promoted learning and also knew everything about the area around the show.
