Odd places for storage

My apartment is a one bedroom, and is less than 700 square feet. But I didn't let that stop me from starting to can again after I moved in. But I figured that as long as I was going to can, it would be silly to do just two or 3 cases. So, I bought more than two cases of jars. And of course Jet had that sale :)

The small pantry is already full and as you can imagine the kitchen is tiny. So the quarts are getting stored in stacked Akro bins in the walk in closet, and the pints are going in bins on a small shelf in the front closet.

Where there's a will, there's a way:)

    Very good!

Lucille, we actually have canned goods in the living room. I made a square side table/ shelf that is 24" X 35" and 26" high. It has five shelves taking up the entire width and depth. It holds quite a few jars so that we don't have to go down to the basement to fetch from the main store of jars all the time. We keep a table cloth over it, and on top of that are the usual lamp, candy dish, and knick-knack kind of stuff. We're just sort of a Little Cabin in the Big City

Our house is under 1000 sq ft and we have hobbies and a way of living that just take up space. I might have posted this before, but here is an example of what we do with produce waiting to be canned-- tomatoes sorted in dishpans on the living room floor. (I could probably use a custom shelf for holding dishpans full of produce.) The fullest pans hold about 11.5 pounds. When the canner is not in use during summer, it is usually in the living room, too. There is just no room in our small kitchen.

Annie that is awesome storage! Your grand daughter and husband are amazing to have built you that pantry!

Matthias those are very yummy looking tomatoes, I bet you have a beautiful garden.

My project for today is to clear out the front closet in preparation for the wire shelf the bins are going to sit on, it will be delivered Saturday. Because of the angles involved I will not be able to just slide the shelf in, noooo, that would be too easy. I will have to build the shelf in the closet.

Laceyvail thank you for bringing up the under bed area, I had not thought of that. What I'm going to do it put other stuff on some clear boxes that I have that will fit under the bed, which will in turn free up some closet space for the bins.

Thanks, Lucille. I love it and I especially love it because of who built it for me!

I also keep potatoes, onions, squash, cabbage, carrots in my back room where the furnace is. It isn't heated, but it doesn't freeze, so the temperature is perfect, although it's hard to keep the humidity right.

Finally the shelf and bins for the pints got here, I just put together the shelf and put the bins on it and am going to start putting the pints in. I am glad it is here because after my recent jaunt to the farmer's market and subsequent canning efforts, there is no counter space because there are a bunch of jars waiting to be put away in the bins.

There has been a mixup in one of the boxes so instead of getting more of the larger bins for quarts, I got a box of oil field cs-rings. I'm working on getting that resolved.

By the end of the weekend, all the new storage bins will be here, the jars put away, and the living room looking hopefully less discombobulated.
