Hello, thank you for your inquiry. The Night Owl Nightstand is constructed of solid wood throughout. What the reviewer refers to is that the top is made of several pieces of solid wood, rather than one slap of wood. You can see this in the close-up photo attached below. You can click on the photo to enlarge it. I hope this helps to clarify!
