It is perfectly acceptable to change the flooring between rooms that have a door or doorway. In large open area rooms it is also OK to differentiate or distinguish an area such as a kitchen by changing the flooring.

ONE FLOORING. Wherever possible. Why switch if you need not? Nobody needs TWO tiles and wood, unless they can prove to me they do. That's rare.

Why 2 different tiles at all

I have attached some pictures - as to why - the entry and dining are a very formal shiny floor that would be in appropriate in the kitchen and my husband refuses to let me have wood in the kitchen. We had 3 different floors before and he sees no reason for it to be different. Since this was an unplanned remodel, I am picking my battles. I am leaning with the same size as the dining- next question is how to transition. Everyone's comments is appreciated. I don't have a picture of the 12X24 of the kitchen tile. The way the french doors close, the dining room tiling currently ends exactly in the middle of the doors, so with the doors closed any transition would only show in the Kitchen.

Select a plain tile or marble threshold and set it into the interface area. Another idea is to get sheets of flat cut pebble tile and set it into a threshold for the transition.

Here is photo of a threshold I did for a family with a bathroom at the end of the hall. We wanted a visual cut off point so I inserted the shower floor tiling into a threshold. Pebbles that worked with the tile flooring.
