I agree Nina! I once bought my dog one of those and immediately took it away and returned it! It was like chewing on razor blades! The pieces that came off were as sharp as shards of glass! It's crazy! I hear people talk about giving them to their dogs all the time! The dogs LOVE them but they are so dangerous!

I wanted to add that when I go to our higher end pet shops, they have boxes and boxes of the Red Barn bones that they are talking about. You know that they must be a popular item because they have so many on display. I wonder what will happen with Red Barn once they decide to pull these off the market!? I do like their bully sticks for my dog. She can eat those without having any issues.

I'm from the old school, Ive never given my dogs any kind of man made bones, I'll stick to using the Kong and fill that with food

the only treats my dogs get are bully sticks and kongs filled with peanut butter and frozen. most people know that cooked bones are a huge no no but they don't seem to think twice about giving these smoked bones. cooked/smoked, no difference!

arkansas girl, i buy the 6" supreme bully sticks from either chewy.com or bestbullysticks.com and i cut them in half. each of my 3 danes gets a 3" piece for a treat after supper.

Why any "treat?" I just use a few pieces of the dog's kibble.

Healthy, no additional ingredients introduced into the dog's diet, readily available, not messy, and did I say healthy?

Oh, the dog salivates and really relishes the "treat!"

Thanks Nina! My dog LOOOOOOOOOVES bully sticks. I'll look at those. She is obsessed with bully sticks. I only give them occasionally as a special treat.

We were warned early on about all of the chew stuff by our Vet including bully sticks and the red bone type products so I’ve always stayed away from them. We have a specialty store in our area that refuses to sell them, I admire their dedication to only sell products with a good product history.

So yesterday I shopped at the Post Exchange (PX) at Fort Meade here in Maryland. I noticed they carry a bunch of these dog items that the FDA identified.

Today I contacted the Exchange Manager. She is now in contact with the buyer for Ft Meade and other local Army Posts and promises to get back to me!

Seemed very disturbed that her store was still selling these items. Good on her!
