The beam is ok with you walking and jumping on it from above, but fragile to you swinging from it below? I think it's fine. (am not a structural engineer tho!)

Right - seems totally fine considering it can support the weight of the house, however I'm questioning the swinging lateral movement, which the beam was not meant to support. My builder wasn't sure so I'm posting here. Hoping someone has an educated answer...

Not a problem...just check the straps frequently for wear.

I love this.!! So many times I read people on here worrying about sloped yards, fireplaces, or rocks in a lawn they’re afraid their kids might trip over. Sheez. “In my day” we climbed trees and fences, ran around on the roof of my elementary school, took waxed paper to use on the big metal slides, rode my grandmother’s horse bareback, and god knows what else. At worst someone might break an arm and get a cool cast but no one’s gonna DIE. Just check the straps like chiflipper says.

I'm no engineer, but my dad did the same thing when I was little in the early 60s and the house is still standing.

It will take more than swings to tear the house down.

You might want to put that exercise matt underneath the area where he is swinging while he's swinging since a fall on concrete could be bruising.

What about sidewalks? : ) and that knotty tree stumpy root thing under the old tree with the beat up tire?

The funny thing is I wasn’t asking about it being safe for the kids. I was concerned about the house. Lol. Will the continued movement loosen things up somehow. After I made sure that their heads won’t smack a lightbulb on the ceiling, I felt they were fine!

Well I declare......looks like a lot of fun to me. My great uncle had a swing (like a swinging horse he made by hand) suspended in his basement. Today it is still a favorite family memory.

Not a pro but the home looks well built so I doubt it would do the house any harm -- at least with no more weight than that -- and he'll likely bore of the swing before he gets heavy enough to have any real effect on the house. Just to be sure, set a bottle of water on the edge of the I-beam and see if you can tell if there is any movement in the beam. If so, remove the swing.

Not sure if anyone noticed but there are two swings. My daughter (on the right) wasn’t swinging high when I took the pic. But she swings even higher than him...

I think your beam swings are a fabulous idea!
In terms of safety I was thinking of your strapping and how to extend the wear of them ... and ultimately ensure no harm comes of your kids due to unseen wear. So if they're at or near the max height of their swing i.e. crash down and having to deal with a broken arm (although a cast may be fun!!!)
I'm in the transport business and pulled a picture of a flatbed truck's strapping. It shows how multiple layers against edges ensures abrasive or wear edges are safely protected. Anyhoooo, just a thought for you!

Haha. Yea- in fairness, what my builder specifically said was “I think so” when I texted him the pictures and asked. Didn’t get a definitive yes. Maybe he doesn’t want to be liable if something happened... who knows... but I knew you all would know ;)
