Can you post a picture? Because my lint trap is in the front and I don't have this issue, so I can't visualize what the problem might be.

So, this isn't a trap that you pull out and pull the lint from the bottom - instead you collect the lint from that well? This is a conundrum.

Yes. But it doesn't make a difference. Opening the door is what makes the clothes fall in.

I've never seen a dryer with that configuration - lint filter mounted to the door. I'm sorry, I have no suggestions for you ;0)

Is this a Speed Queen or GE dryer?

Wow. I’ve never seen something like that before. Mine is in the same spot but it’s a pull out filter that doesn’t get anything on the clothes at all. Seems very poorly designed.

Mine looks like this...you pull it out, open it and remove the lint.

I don't know how to fix your problem. I can see why you have an issue but I don't have an immediate answer. :-(

Speed Queen. Not happy at all with this dryer for many reasons. Washer is wonderful.

Hardware cloth sounds like a perfect idea. Thanks. But how to attach it so it doesn't move around during drying. I'll think about this. Hmm...vent guard...thanks.

Maybe Speed Queen has the answer. I'll contact them.

I just looked online and Speed Queen does make a lint tray cover. I wonder if it should've come with the dryer. Problem solved!

SQ makes a cover for that. In fact I thought they came on every SQ dryer but evidently not. I am sure they will fix you up.

SQ did in fact used to incude this with their dryers but for some rerason they stopped providing this compoent. I was going to let you now know you could order it. I learned about this on automaticwasher.org

That is SO weird. It looks just like my SQ drier. But mine came with a little drop-in grid.

That said, A LOT of lint still gets past that drier. We have a secondarily lint filter installed in the venting behind the drier, and we must clean it about every third load. It gets covered. And about every 3 months, we have to unscrew that bolt-thingie that holds the mesh pocket in the drier, and run the vac hose and some drier brushes down inside the machine. Wads of lint come out. Maybe all driers give off that much lint? Dunno. This is the first time we’ve had a secondary filter, or a primary filter we could unbolt. But it helps me understand how so many drier fires occur.

That almost makes me a little disappointed in Speed Queen with their stellar reputation. They've sold you a product that comes without something you obviously need.

Lint comes from washing action, not much directly from drying. Drying action just loosens and collects the lint left on the clothes from washing.

Years ago they included the fill hoses with washers and cords and vent kits with dryers. No more, have to buy that extra. But this filter cover not being included is ridiculous. JMO

Go on amazon and buy a lint trap cover. It is made for the speed queen dryer. It costs $12. 510502W cover lint filter. They used to include them with older speed queen dryers but now they don’t. It fits perfectly and now none of my clothes can fall Inot the lint filled trap. I love it!
