Is cotton fabric with metallics bad for the machine?

I've asked this on the quilting forum and no-one really knows so far, but here's my question: I bought some gray cotton quilting fabric that has a very slight
metallic sheen in it. I just now went over my machine and started
prepping it for quilting. When I got down into the bobbin area to give
it a thorough cleaning, I noticed a lot of specks of what looks like
this metallic fiber and it was hard to clean out because it didn't want
to adhere to the brush. I'm wondering if this is not a good thing for
the machine? I have a Viking Emerald and it's not mechanical so it can't
be taken completely apart except by the Viking technician so access to
the inside is limited to simple cleaning of the bobbin area. Anyone else
out there know?
