If we could figure out what makes them bloom off season, we could have them blooming all year long!

It's especially nice to see that off season bloom as they can get lost when everybody is blooming.

When there is just one, one really savors the beauty. The shape suggests movement. It really is a special one.

If you force them indoors, at elevated Substrate temperature Level, elevated temperature for the BULB that is, and you will relocate them outdoors after 6 months or so, then you will obtain new Bloom 3+ but less than 4 months afterwards.

Let us talk of "nice surprise" - I found a scape, poking out, on one of my 19 seedling bulbs of "Striped Panther" x "Reggae" - is everyone familiar with how these hybrids look, which were released for the public around 2000 or so?

I have Reggae , actually small as it had some problems , but I love it , can't understand why nobody offers it anymore.

But Striped Panther is unknown to me !

Gorgeous picture Maria, do you still have yours?? Love Salmon Taenia too, that one I do have and it's still alive as well as a new corrienense hybrid that hasn't bloomed yet. In fact, I bought two of them a year or so ago and both bulbs came at the same time and one had a totally different shape than the other so who knows what I got!! More surprises in store!

I absolutely loved Salmon Taenia, one of my favorites from Komoriya, now if I can only get it to bloom again!!

Wow! Kagaribi was not known to me before. It has a wonderful shape. I have been a fan of Salmon Taenia for some time now! Those pictures are beautiful!

Donna, your Salmon Taenia is is gorgeous. I'm still trying to figure out the Komoriya bulbs cultivation needs. I think I'm going to put certain bulbs in a separate "Diva" section for special individualized care. Lol - Jody

I have no clue how the bloom from crosspolination from, "Reggae" will look.

The results from crosspolination from "PapMinPic were intermediates.

I have Double Delight and Party blooming. Party has 7 buds which actually doesn't allow for a nice picture as the blooms fight for their rightful

place. But those of you who know and have Party know how beautiful the backs of the flowers are. Double Delight is red, not orange as my picture says and it is very fragrant, I had forgotten! This Double Delight is a mislabel from Royal Colors and was supposed to be Double Circus. I have one from another year so now I have two!!

Anyway, they make quite a colorful splash in the corner of my bay window!!

The intensely-red midrib on the backside of the florets is likely a particular property due to the parentage of H.papilio. I have numerous seedlings of H.cybister "Chico" x H.papilio, where this ruby keel is very conspicious and makes the backside floret even more attractive than the inside. Wait...

My Suggestion is: Electric Heat-mats. Raise the substrate temperature up to 27° Celsius = 80° Fahrenheit at the bottom of the Container!

Joy, I hope your bulbs bloom for you soon, I'm surprised as all of my newly purchased bulbs have either bloomed or are in the process of sending up scapes, all but one. They are in the house which I keep at 72° (a few degrees cooler at night) and many of them are even warmer during the day sitting in my hot sunny bay window. Especially where you are a newbe to these bulbs we all hope that you are pleased with them!!

Béa, I decided to buy a new Party this year as my other one is like yours, getting smaller each year. This one has 3 scapes so I seriously doubt whether it will recover enough to bloom any time soon in the future so maybe in a couple of years I'll buy another one!
Hans-Werner, the backs of your flowers are even more vibrant than Party is, lovely!!

For the first time ever I bought a Gold Medal from Rarebulbs and I don't think I recall that anyone has ever posted a picture of one so I'll have some flowers in about a week. Looks likes an interesting orange, here is the big fat bud...

Also my Exotica x no-id large orange is blooming for the 3d (!!) time this year, I can't believe it!! I decided since she's rather pretty with her green throat and her propensity for blooming that she deserves a name: Green Eyed Tangerine!! Here she is with 2 of her 3 blooms currently...

and here she was just in August this summer with more pink.

Thanks Hans and Donna! I *thought* my home was warm - we usually keep it between 68 to 70 during the day and 67 at night. The bulbs are all in a sunny location upstairs - but I am just realizing that I don’t really get good sun anywhere in our house. I will try the electric heat mats Hans - thanks for the suggestion! I recently got two led light bulbs as well so I am going to experiment with which works!

Here is my fully bloomed evergreen and the buds just opening on the rosy star. The rosy star was the one which was the first to send out scapes but they stayed closed for almost two weeks!

Does this look like a rosy star?

I've never actually had one but I can see a slight flush of pink in those buds. Sometimes the buds really surprise you how quickly they can come into their color just days before opening. Wishing you luck....:-)

Donna, your Party is gorgeous! I bought one last season and it bloomed like crazy and grew many leaves in summer. Now I'm really curious whether it will rebloom or not. I remember that I liked the backs of the flowers as much as the front too!

I love this Exotica cross and Green Eyed Tangerine is a very good name for it! I have a bud on a Gervase x Exotica bulb for the first time and I really hope for something equally beautiful :-)

I guess I won't have any blooms for Christmas this year, everything is developing very slow in my cool flat :-( Please keep posting pictures of everything that is blooming for you, folks!

Donna your exotica cross is beautiful - and bloomed three times in 1 year - that’s amazing !

And there is definitely a blush of pink in my buds - but so faint that I don’t have high hopes that the flowers will be anything like the pics! But all the buds are growing at the same time and pretty much at the same rate - so hoping for a nice show!

i hope you guys don’t mind my posting my silly pics in the midst of all your great blooms - here’s some narcissus that I bought at the grocery store(!) that has also now bloomed !

Narcissus are lovely any time of the year and I'll bet they're super fragrant!

I just had to check my pictures to make sure that I was correct about my Green Eyed Tangerine blooming 3 times this year and she bloomed in Jan, Aug and now. I can't be sure though if there were two scapes at any time, probably not.

Donna, I got both bulbs, Exotica and Gervase from Fluwel, a Dutch company, three years ago. They were actually the first two Hippeastrum bulbs I ever ordered! I've read many times since then that Gervase doesn't set seeds but I'm quite sure that I did the cross this way. I have three seedlings in one small pot and discovered a bud on a second bulb yesterday too, so I can see if there's much variation. I'm quite exited too although I expect something red because all the pictures of crosses with Gervase I'v seen showed red blooms. Well, we have to be patient again, there are only the tips of the buds out yet...

Here is Gold Medal. This is a highly saturated deep orange with a deeper almost red throat. The color reminds me of the flames in a fireplace. The pedicels were nearly nonexistent so the flowers are rather crushed but I think that a non stressed bulb might put out better spaced flowers. Nice enough and a striking color.

I found out what my red flower is that was supposed to be Exotica; it is Ferrari!! I have to say that of all the reds I've had over the years including the darker ones like Benfica and Red Pearl, this is the most beautiful red I've ever had. I looked it up on line and none of the pictures depicted the true flower or color but my pictures were even worse!! A few days ago I dabbed fresh papilio on one flower and if I let my imagination run away, I might think that it is taking??? Maybe some Dragon's Blood lookalikes are in the future?? Fingers crossed!!

Donna, both flowers are beautiful. It is really a shame that it is difficult, almost impossible, for cameras to capture the true red color of these beautiful hippeastrum. Many times I have looked at the picture of a new red being introduced and wondered - why another red. I would never have realized how many different and beautiful red hippeastrum existed if it wasn't for mislabels over the years. One of the benefits of mislabels lol.

I actually never bought a true red Hippi, although I like red. But I'm pretty sure that I will get one as a mislabel or as a cross one day...

No Anja, I don't believe I'll pollinate on Gold Medal as this bulb is severely stressed. The bulb has has really shrunk with no roots or leaves so I'd better leave it alone. As I sit here typing, I just looked up and noticed that one of my crosses on Midori no Kuni is failing, it is turning yellow. Hope this isn't a premonition that like last year all my crosses start dropping like flies!! ;-(

Here is Giraffe, blooming on a short stem (Jody your looks like it's on a short stem too, is it?). This was over by the cat box (hubby's duty) and partially covered by the leaves so I just noticed it! There are two other scape emerging from this pot from different small bulbs, hope these do better.

Not too proud of this one....

I've also got a bloom on a huge Opal Star barely making it out of the bulb I guess I'm doing something they don't like but I haven't got the room to baby any of these!!

Donna, your Giraffe is really pretty. Mine opened on a shorter stem, but had room to open and then some. I have had the short stem trouble with papilio on occasion. Is this a new bulb?

Those leaves look nice and green...so you are doing something right. It is a lively flower even if the scape is short.

Jody, no this is an old bulb. I've never had a short stem on a new bulb, just on old established bulbs! This is the 3rd one I've had this year. I've also had a couple that have emerged halfway only to wither, old bulbs also. It's got to be something I'm doing wrong but hopefully, there will be another scape in some of these that will bloom normally later.

That happened to me one year too. The only thing I could think of is that the winter was warmer than usual which brought the bulbs out of dormancy without the spring rain and I didn't water so maybe that stressed them...but that is just a guess. The right watering when the temps fluctuate can be tricky as you know.
