House Height Comparison

I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly. These two houses - are they really only 2ft height difference?

Just trying to figure out how that's right if one is a 2 story and one is a 1 story. When doing these measurements, are they assuming different types of foundation or something?

Well the first one isn't a true one story. It has some upstairs space too. Plus the roof pitch is higher which generally means a taller roof peak. The ceiling heights are different too.

1. First floor 10 ft ceilings, 2nd floor 9 ft ceilings

2. First floor 9 ft ceilings, 2nd floor 8 ft ceilings.

The depth of the 2 story is also 53 feet vs the 72 foot depth of the one story - also leading to a larger / higher roof, as well.

None of this is surprising - the 2 story is a tidier package
