@Carly Nading: So far, so good. The install was in our half-bath, so it doesn't get as much constant use as one of our full baths... No teeth brushing, shaving, etc.

IKEA mentioned this to me when we bought our sink. We are using brass fixtures, so the "fix" for me was to buy IKEA's brand faucet in brass and use that drain with our non-IKEA brass faucet. I was just at IKEA last night and see they have a new black faucet, so that is an option for the folks who are planning to use black faucets.

Quick update to my comment above: Today we installed Pfister Park Avenue faucets in brushed gold in our IKEA sinks, and the IKEA drains in brass are a perfect match!

Responding to @ rmlny , but to anyone else who may be concerned, the drains in the IKEA sinks meet all plumbing code (yes, even in NY). A lot of people see something different than they're used to and just automatically assume it's wrong -- it's not. 90-degree drains are very common in ADA-compatible installations where people need to be able to run wheelchairs up under the sink and that's all IKEA is doing with their sink drains. Instead of doing it to provide unobstructed access for a wheelchair, they do it to provide ample space for under-sink drawers. For me, that added drawer space is a god-send!

It's not the shape that doesn't meet code, it's the material. PVC traps/pipes are not code in NYC

@ margieric I am needing to find the Ikea brass drain (and overflow cover) exactly like you have in your photos above but I can't seem to find which faucet you purchased at Ikea to get the drain? Did the overflow cover come with it or did you have it painted? Also, did you get your gold pulls at Ikea as well? I have spent hours trying to find a sink that won't lose all the drawers in the vanity and trying to match metals and I think you have the answer! Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone! Thanks for this post! If I am using Delta Champagne bronze fixtures in my bathroom, would the ikea brass faucet be the right color to match the champagne bronze? Prefer not to by 4 faucets (2 champagne bronze from Delta and 2 ikea to get the right drain color). Thanks!

This post is exactly what I'm looking for! I bought 2 Ikea sinks... but separately purchased Delta matte black faucet, and a Delta champagne bronze faucet. And after everything was installed yesterday... I'm learning that the drain and overflow cover don't match. Both sinks look terrible, IMO! (the picture won't attach!)

So if I'm following all of this correctly, I need to purchase Ikea faucets in black and bronze in order to get the drain and overflow covers to match better? Or do you think Ikea will JUST sell me those parts, not the full faucet sets? Seems like an expensive solution.. would love to know what you all suggest! Thanks so much.

Confused! I thought IKEA sinks work with nearly any faucets? Also, I've asked the very nice IKEA employees many times about whether it's possible to trade out their cheap-looking chrome drain cover with a different drain cover (from another brand) and they all said, sure, no problem! Is this not true?? I've purchased Delta Lahara faucets but am pondering going with something a bit more modern looking. Wondering if I should just go with IKEA faucets at this point (they look much improved since a couple years ago).

My contractors said, yes, it's not true -- the delta pop-up drain in lovely matte black... just won't fit with Ikea sinks. Ikea plumbing seems very specific!

He said the plumbing/drain underneath run a different direction/not long enough. Something like that. I'm not a plumbing expert.. i just wanted things to match nicely and now I regret getting the ikea sink.

Nearly any single hole faucet can be used on an ikea sink, but their drain is very specific if you want to keep the top drawer. You can live with the wrong color drain cover, or buy a throwaway ikea faucet for the correct color drain cover.

@HALLETT & Co., sorry for dumb question, but when you say "their drain" you're talking about the drain hole under the drain cover, or the pipe underneath, or both?

It’s a system. Their drain and drain plug only works with their tail piece. MAYBE you can use a regular American drain but they require a P trap directly under so now you don’t have room for the drawer.

What you can’t do is try to use the visible part of an American drain with the business end of the ikea drain. There is a special screw/ bolt that goes down through the face of the drain screen into the plastic drain pipe pulling them into the porcelain sink. This screw is also what the stopper pushes into. This is not at all how regular American drains work.

Regarding Drains: You can use a non-ikea pop-up drain without cutting the drawers but you will need to buy additional fittings & be creative. I bought 3 drains before finding one that fit perfectly in the Odensvik sink [thx to another poster, the KingstonBrass EV-8001 fits]. The drain needs to be abut 2 ½" in diameter but shaped to fit the slope of the hole. It then needs to be cut so it does not hit the drawer & the p-trap needs to be positioned to run parallel to the wall to fit into the 4" clearance behind the drawers. You can search the web & youtube. There are tons of pics & videos of how people have done it.

@rm101 I have been Google-Tubing this for many months and got so tired of trying to figure out the "best" way, I nearly abandoned ship (until I started shopping for non-IKEA vanities and decided it was worth slogging through more Goog-Tubes!). Our IKEA has a prominent display showing the underneath of the cabinets with all the pipes showing, so DIY plumbers (or pro plumbers) can see what they're in for, more or less.

Just want to say how happy I was to find this post. I am about to renovate our bathroom (in Australia) and have already purchased a Godmorgon vanity and Odensvik sink, but different (much nicer) faucet and other matching brushed brass tapware. I knew that the brass drain and overflow was available with Ikea's tap and already spent a long time trying to convince Ikea to sell this to me separately - they won't. I don't really have time / energy (kids!!) to come up with an alternative solution, so might just cut my losses and buy the Ikea faucet so I can use their drain and overflow fittings. So annoying, but sure I'll forget about the cost soon enough ....!!

Wow - so exciting! hope it all goes well. What did you end up doing with the drainer / overflow? Also - are your vanities wall-hung, and if so are you taking any additional hanging precautions or just going with the Ikea fittings? One random blog post I read has made me nervous about the weight of the sink + vanity combo...(although I feel like it must be fine, or they wouldn't sell it?).

@Suzane D, I haven't decided yet...we don't move in for a few more weeks, so why rush things, ha ha! :-D But I'm probably going with some modern style Delta in the master bath, then sticking with IKEA's stainless steel Dalska faucets for the others.

As for the weight (yes we are floating them), I mentioned many times to my GC the idea of adding more blocking to the frame for more support, but he kept insisting it would be fine. Fingers tightly crossed there! Of course there are always the $10 legs if we absolutely had to add them..

Funny I am now in the UhOh moment with brushed nickel faucets going on IKEA Odensvik sink and my GC is pointing out the mismatch with the bright chrome drain and overflow ring and now I am looking for solution! i know most of you are looking for brass, but anyone have any ideas for a brushed nickel? Or brush stainless steel?

@molliensac, I decided not to spend the $ and was glad. Truth is, most of the time the metal ring at the bottom of our sink looks white thanks to the toothpaste residue, so... :-D

I am about to face this same issue, and my plan was to buy the IKEA brass faucet for the strainer and overflow ring to go with our Delta faucet, but it appears to have disappeared from the website! :( Has anyone seen it recently? It was the HAMNSKAR, I believe. Thanks!

The gold colored faucet seems to now be gone from both the usa and Canada ikea sites. We went to the store to look at the black ones. There were only the two. The (third) cheap plastic one was not displayed nor available. I found a difference btwn the black finishes in the two black ones, with the lundskar looking more like black stainless steel and the hamnskar looking more satin black (I haven't seen a matte black faucet in real life, so can't say if they are more matte than ikea's). Hamnskar has a country flair, while lundskar is more modern looking. We bought the hamnskar, mostly due to the blacker color. I wasn't sure the faucet came with the overflow piece in addition to the drain, but can confirm that it does.

Husband took a look at it when we got home and we read some of the comments, both here and ikea reviews. At first we were going to just take it back, but he decided to keep it. We have the 48 inch godmorgan with TWO drawers on each side, so our new plumbing wasn't in the right place, as it was centered in the middle and the pipe would've been in the way of the extra middle support for the 48 inch. He took down the godmorgan which he had already installed, cut out a big piece of drywall, and altered the plumbing to accommodate. He was OK with that though since he noticed the new wall was bowed anyway, so it allowed him to fix that at same time.

Now we're into more drywalling, mudding, sanding, priming, painting, reinstalling the cabinet, etc. Don't know if I would've bought godmorgan if I had understood about the special drain considerations ahead of time! I bought it because I wanted 'floating', and also because I loved the white ceramic countertop/sink (odensvik). I'm not thrilled about the more cottagey look of the hamnskar faucet, but I'll make it work. Hopefully someday ikea will offer more selection and finishes!

I noticed someone trying to sell their new in box black ikea hamnskar faucet on ebay for $100USD, MINUS the black drain cover and overflow pieces!

Also, ikea didn't appear to sell anything in a brushed nickel finish, altho they were displaying one in SS finish.

Will update later after we see how the installation of the faucet/ikea plumbing goes!

Love this thread! I bought the HAMNSKÄR faucet and it does come with the black strainer BUT as most have mentioned the overflow cover is chrome (plastic actually). I've tweeted to IKEA Support as the attached includes the black drain...deceiving advertising. There are two drain covers (one comes with sink and one with faucet) so I will try to paint one. :)

@ljbwilk- i can't find the video but here's a pic of how I cut the Kingston Brass drain. We didn't use the bottom piece from the drain. We cut it below the thread & then attached an elbow that went straight back to clear the top drawer. I was able to save the drawer by only having to cut an inch or 2 out of the back w/o cutting the bottom so the top drawer remained intact. I also used a non-ikea faucet. Hope this helps!

@rmlny thank you so much for doing that. I ordered my EV-8007 drain and this forbidding message was on the box. A plumber is going to do this for us so I assume it will work despite the box warning… right?

@ljbwilk Yes, it will work! Ikea sinks do not have standard overflows. A real plumber will know how to hook it up [the 1st person I hired had no clue & wanted to leave the overflow hole open- I made him leave immediately!] The 2nd person was a licensed plumber & had no issues—he just needed to buy some fittings & pipes to make it work— we used a branch tailpiece for the overflow. You can see in my pic the black overflow tube connects to the tailpiece.

Update on my situation in case it's helpful to anyone: our guy was not excited about using a pipe cutter to shorten the Kingston Brass EV-8007 (which fits the Odensvik sink) and the color is reasonably close to Kohler's Burshed Moderne Brass. I was so excited to see him after a period of absence and grateful for his willingness to mess with it so I just accepted his solution which was to dramatically shorten the depth of the drawers.

I think this allowed him to use a traditional P-trap and will admit that I was a bit wary of a more shallow P-trap because while the picture bathroom is not heavy use, I'm also putting these sinks in the boys bathroom and there are four stereotypical rambunctious dirty boys in this house. So I'll deal with that when we finally commence work on the boys bathroom.

In the meantime, he left me this note which I think means he's trying to find a cap for the overflow hole because it doesn't go anywhere... I cannot find any overflow caps in brass but I'll update accordingly for anyone who is helped by this info.
