I'd go with 3500 or 4000. I have soft white cabinets with 3500 K under-cabinet lights and a bunch of can lights. I do not find that it makes the cabinets too yellow or too blue. HTH.

I have learned more about lights and color values than I ever wanted to learn. LEDs have no true standardization, so a 2700K from one brand is not necessarily the same as a 2700K from another brand. Each companies color is slightly different and they round to the closest grouped K value.

In addition to the K value there is also a color rendition index value - how well it reflects color.

After much study I purchased 12 different light bulbs (4 brands, 3 K values) and took them home and tested them in my matching bedroom lamps until I found what worked best in my home with my colors.

I selected the Cree Brand 5000 k bulbs for my house. It was the appropriate balance of K, CRI and Price. I have a lot of purple colors and undertones in my home and anything less than 5000 k made them muddy.

I had to purchase a different brand light bulb for the light over my stove and it is also a 5000 K light, but noticeably bluer than my Cree bulbs.

I agree 5000k is usually what I use since it mimics bright sunlight which IMO is what you for sure want in a kitchen. I have been slowly changing all my halogen MR16 and GU 10 to LED and use 5000k everywhere so far.
