They're predicting around an inch here and it's been coming down in spurts but not sticking to the ground which is still warmish. The car has maybe 1/2 inch so far on the roof.

It's dark now so I don't know what's going on besides what I see on the websites. I hate overnight snowstorms that hit you with SURPRISE! in the morning.

It is nice though not to be compulsively checking the National Hurricane Center's Atlantic 2-Day Graphical Tropical Weather. Now I'm compulsively checking the NWS Winter Weather Forecast. I'm trying to remember what weather forecasting was like before the internet.

We are forecast for 3-5 inches. We are up to 3, and it is still snowing. The snow started sticking this morning, and has been coming down ever since. The cat is desperately looking for a door that goes to an outside without snow. So far he has tried the back door and the front door. Eventually, he will try the porch door, and stay out for a while.

My DH seems to be grilling a steak for dinner. With charcoal. In the snow. Not my problem.

Sun on the trees to the west of the house as it clears the trees to the east. I love how you can see the trees on the west bank of the river lit up through the trees on the east bank. It's my favorite morning view. It is predicted to get into the upper 30's today, so this beauty is fleeting.

We ended up with 3" of snow.

Think we got about 6”; just south of the NH line.

Just gorgeous! I could see the yellow sun catching the snow on the west side of the river here this morning through the trees, and pictures can’t capture the dazzling quietness of the bright glow. Your picture, NHBabs, is striking, so I can only imagine how stunning it was in person. What a treat to see that gorgeous unobstructed view so often.

Based on H B we got between 6-8 inches. I think I’ll buy myself a snow “measurer” for Christmas. After that big storm at the end of October I’d love to have an anemometer and measure wind speed, too.

The snow has already been falling in both clumps and fairy dusts off of the trees. Enjoy it while you can!

We got around 5" here in So. Maine. Hubby was out moving the lawn tracker to the back of the garage and putting the snow blower in the front fro easy access the day before the snow. We also stacked more wood down cellar, trimmed off a few split tree branches that may have come down during the snow storm. All part of living in a snowy wonderland! Sure does make everything look nice doesn't it? Waiting for another snowfall this Tuesday. Although, I doubt we along the coast will see a lot of snow. Mostly a rainy mix compared to those inland.

Today's snow may not last since it is predicted to change over to rain mid-afternoon, but for now it is another beautiful snowfall.

No rain here yesterday; we didn't get above 28 degrees, so We not have about 6" of snow.

Finally got the first snow last night and this morning; about one inch total.

Not the best timing since yesterday the driver's seat door on my car decided it didn't want to latch shut, and I was scheduled to drive the car into the shop this morning. So I drove on unplowed and slippery roads with the front car doors bungeed together over my lap like an auxiliary seat belt. My brother followed in his car just in case something went wrong. All went well and the mechanic fixed the latch (for now at least).

Not a whole lot of snow, which is fine with me, but it looks pretty out my kitchen window. That's a turkey feather on my window sill in the first pic.

The winterberries are still red since the robins and waxwings haven't been back. Either the berries aren't quite ripe or the birds are still working on the winterberries down by the pond.

Miscanthus wear their snowcoats well.

Beautiful, Claire! It is amazing how bright the winterberries are against the snow and evergreens. The first photo is particularly stunning. Is that your wisteria with the red bows in the background of the second-to-last photo?

Glad that the car door is repaired. Nothing so unpleasant as a car that doesn't seal against the winter weather.

Thanks, NHBabs! Yes, that's my wisteria - the bows are anticipating the loss of red accents from my window view when the winterberries are gobbled up by the birds (soon). I have other red and red/gold bows scattered around the property to help cheer up the view.

The car door not only didn't seal but it had a tendency to fly open when I tried to drive - not a good scenario.

Claire, your colorful landscape photos are just beautiful! I have serious winterberry envy, but alas I'm one zone too cold for them. Usually we have an abundance of "berries" on our flowering crabapple trees each winter, but this has been an off year for them. Lots of blossoms every spring does not appear to predict how many crabapples will appear in autumn. Not too many birds eat them, so I'm guessing they are not especially tasty. But they are pretty and I miss them this winter.

I need to get out and take some winter photos, but I haven't even gotten all our Christmas decorations up yet, indoors or out. Glad you got your car door fixed without incident, Claire. I've been in a 9th circle of hell with a sick dog and other problems, so the best I have to offer is a low-quality shot that one of our webcams took this morning. We got nearly a foot of snow and it's been bitter cold.

Sped, I hope your puppy will heal well. A shetland?

The Prairie fire crabapple trees we put in attract robins, cardinals and cedar waxwings; pretty much the same crowd that likes the dogwoods.

Thanks Jane. Both dogs are on the mend. The Shetland sheepdog (sheltie) is young and resilient, but I worry about my old mixed breed 15 yr old. However both have turned the corner. It was giardia, for which there used to be a vaccine (a pox on the company for discontinuing it!) and more of a time-consuming illness than anything. Dogs and bedding all needed washing anyway. They are alive and well! Horribly off topic (apologies for OT picture below) but here they are, bringing holiday greetings:

Jane, one of my crabapples is a Prairie fire, another is an American spirit, and my favorite is a semi-weeping Profusion, but they all have the same small red fruit and are fancied by robins, cardinals and cedar waxwings also. I have other ornamental crabapples that are up-and-coming saplings, but I'm not sure what variety they are. Apples of all kinds do well here.

I have to admit I don't have all the Christmas decorations up either; primarily the outside lights. I rely on rope lights (squirrel-resistant) which stiffen up in nasty cold weather like we've been having and that makes it hard to wrap them around the porch and deck railings (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

Tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed to be much warmer and I plan to put them up then. I was raised on the tradition of putting up the tree, etc. on Christmas Eve and leaving the lights on until Epiphany, so it's not really that late.

Unfortunately, the neighborhood here runs more to putting decorations up soon after Thanksgiving so I try to compromise.

You still have plenty of time.

Me too. We didn’t get a tree until the 24th and it was decorated that night. I still have the German candle holders for real candles. It was more magical, IMO. So, Sped, think of it not as being tardy, but rather, savoring the celebration closer to the day.

Well I finally got the outdoor lights up on the house. As to the lights out across our property, I knew early this spring when taking them down that I would not be dragging those hundreds of feet of outdoor extension cords up hill, through the brambles and the snow another year. I'm too old and it's too difficult, so I have a greatly abridged version of outdoor lights in the back, just the lighted wreath on the barn, some lights along a section of fence, a string of lights by the picnic area, and newly added colored floodlights. The picnic area lights and fence lights are year-round, while the other lights stay up until St Patrick's Day. (All the lights stay on 24/7. I hate darkness.)

Jane, those candle-holders for a tree are antique treasures! Such a piece of history!
