Coffee table conundrum

last modified: 8 years ago

Need advice: I recently redecorated my living room. Going for a modern glam but reaxed look. I live in an apt so space is somewhat limited. Want to replace my current C&B parsons coffee table but can't decide what I should replace it with. Chrome? Marble? Gold or brass could warm things up? Is acrylic too modern for this room? Out of frame across from couch is a msm wood credenza with my TV (Catalog photo below). I also plan to replace the gray chair on the left, fyi.

Any ideas??

It looks nice now, but to put a little more life into the room you could get a more modern painting with a bit of the color say Orange then paint the table legs and add a couple pillows with the color. you could get heaver curtains for winter months and white sheers for summer. maybe a little bigger lamp. also could add a big rug under the table. just some ideas to play with. have fun!

Without seeing more of the room my first impression is that the glass coffee table looks good there since the space looks very small. Why do you want to change the table? Maybe accessorize it to “warm things up?”

Thanks for commenting. I think metal would add a little glam. I like the monochromatic look - the painting is actually new - but I think marble and/or metal would jazz it up a bit. I also found a chrome and acrylic table I love but am afraid it won't look right. Wish I had bought a track arm sofa b/c I like a modern look but this one was so comfy I fell in love. :)

And yes, space is small - NYC apartment, which is why I lean toward glass, but maybe chrome and glass or brass and glass?

Gold tone and glass nesting tables would be nice and take up less visual space and you could move them around when watching tv for food and drinks.

I love that painting! I might try to vary the patterns in your pillows to bring in some more color and variety. Oh, and comfy should be #1 for a sofa! It looks very nice, too.

Maybe not these exact pillows, but just some ideas:

In a small space, I like a table that you don't have to walk around, so two smaller tables could give you some space in between them. What about something like these?

    or even:

Nice room and I would put a rectangular coffee table similar in size to what you have already, in brass. The room needs a focus of warmth.

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I've thought about 2 small square vs 1 large rectangle. It seems everyone agrees gold or brass would bring in some warmth. What do you all think of these?

Comfort is important. A glass table, smaller than the one you have with rounded corners or oval. Lovely stationary drapes would add to the room.

I would say no to gold and yes to s.s. or silver. sorry pressed submit before I was done.

This is what I meant by nesting tables; maybe table clusters? I couldn't find any pics with gold tone.

Angel: all are marble except for #2, which is mirror.

Suzy: I like that idea in theory, but this is my main room, I eat there, watch tv there, do my manicures there, pay my bills there, etc. so I'm afraid smaller tables aren't as practical.

    One more - mirror!

You could still spread out with those two^. And they are an interesting shape.

Umm, is that gold trim on the artwork, then gold would be the way to go.

Great start so far! Love the art piece. I would definitely go for something with some metal. Gold would look great and would add more variety/texture to the space.

How about one of these for task lighting your mani?

The frame on the painting is a light wood but I think gold would pick it up well.

Suzy: I looked at that set of round nesting tables. An interesting option!

    One more table:

I definitely think gold is the best option. It will warm up your space and bring out the frame on your lovely painting.

    West Elm

You have so many from which to choose but I'm adding mine. I like this one as it's glass upper and lower which I find convenient and it's gold leaf which gives it another texture look, then add other bling pieces and you're all set. I think changing the pillows to the ones suggested would really warm up this room. It's nice now but just so gray. A new coffee table will help but even with that I think more warmth would really add to the comfort level of the room.

I like what you have -- and I like the option of changing out some of the pillows for warmer colors of or when you want. And you might like some yellows or green in the spring and summer if you like changing seasonally.

I like the first table with the marble and semi-circular legs, but my first thought was round with warm metal tones. The Wayfair pair and the West Elm one are along that line. I think I am just liking the round ones since you ruled out a pairing or grouping of smaller ones. I think the change in shape is more interesting -- and they tend to give you a little more room to walk around.

Here is a designs of ours. Note the coffee table and side table? They might look great in your space.

I love the coffee table but I think its out of my budget.

Where is that gray chair from?
