So you need to stop right now. You need to stop buying things until you come up with an overall plan. Your kitchen cabinets look in good shape, but the color is very dated. You need a plan to update them. And then although that granite is very pretty, it is very dark for a kitchen and it is very dramatic for such a small space. I would only do that granite with white cabinets, and I would probably never use that granite in such a small kitchen. So you need to stop and re-evaluate. You have more issues than just picking out a back splash.

And don't buy any top for the dated cabinetry and lighting and sink and anything else until you have a plan for the kitchen in total. Otherwise..........................leave it alone.

Hi Joanne, I absolutely agree with both cpaul1 and Jan Moyer. You do require an overall plan regarding the colour palette for your kitchen. Joanne the pics that you have uploaded are very very dark. Could you upload a few more when the lighting is brighter so that we can get a better idea? It is very hard to specify colour from a computer monitor at anytime. However, to answer your question.... in the event that you decide to move forward with your granite choice, the backsplash needs to be plain without pattern as the granite is very busy.

I think I would like to see more of the kitchen before commenting like the floor for instance . Are you keeping the black appliances ?

You're going to darken and date your kitchen even more with that countertop. You need a lighter, simpler stone.

If you do stay with it, get new cabinet hardware, something shinier. A light and VERY SIMPLE backsplash. Pick the lightest color in the stone and run with it. (No 4 inch stone piece in the back either)
