Shower redo: Tile to ceiling with cornice?

I have planned a W4.5 x6L 7' H shower tile with a cornice, then paint to the 9' ceiling. Am told most these days go to the ceiling. If I do that it eliminates or diminishes she cornice. I also plan a rain shower. Should I just go to the ceiling and put the cornice trim somewhere else? ave pencil tile at 4'. Perhaps just put the cornice above that or at the 7' if tiling all the way up?

There is also a window about 6' up on the 4.5 foot side. Thanks your observations. This is a coastal cottage. ( East coast)

This is a redo of first attempt- the rustic boards just do not work. Planning gloss white subway with cove and cornice.

I don't about so much ewwww. Just left an 8 yo shower with gasp paint from 7-9 feet. Crown to ceiling. No mildew, no dust issues. Nothing particularly mildew free about tile just easier to clean. Mildew is a ventilation problem not a surface material issue IMO.

But I do see a greater potential if there is a large horizontal surface there. That being said we had a 7 ft wall with a ledge and no issues. 2x4 wall with some trim up there.

I am not understanding "cornice" ? Do you mean crown molding in the shower? Do you mean an accent trim? You don't need it is all I can say. In ANY material. I think possibly you are over designing.............maybe get a pro onsite to help. How many times do you want to re do it?

Is that wood in the shower , what were you thinking. I am curious to know what waterproofing you have got in there and now that you don’t like the boards they will have to removed and all the waterproofing done again. I never choose subway tile for showers but larger format tile just to cut down on grout lines

By cornice, you mean an elaborate tile trim piece? Yeah, don’t do that. Y current shower has thick tile trim at 7 feet and paint above. It is so gross, there’s god knows what collecting up there. Dust, mildew, ewwwww.

Its good your tearing it out, just as they finish the demo, fire them. The window cavity alone in its lack of detailing gets them fired in the professional tile world.

A rain shower head puts out a huge, splashing water spray. You will find, over time, that water splash is very large and wets a huge area in and around the shower. For such a shower head you should consider a glass wall enclosure for the partial height wall and a glass door.

Tile to the ceiling and tile all of the window head, sills and jambs.

Your biggest threat is going to be black mold where the water stands after showering.

Thanks so much for the quick responses! That is wood look tile- recommended by a professional. I do not like the final look wanting more clean farm cottage. The shower window was not complete, Trim was planned and I think now a little ledge. The builder was only following the directions he had but now I want to make a better cleaner light design but lived the cornice pieces or crown at the top.

Concerned going up 9 feet might make make it disappear and also be overwhelming.

the window not complete is right . In the photo there is major tile install failure and even if they continued on it would not be right as its to late to correct and tie in properly.

its your waste of $ have at it on round 2
