Hi Rockin', does "solid core wood" mean it must be made from one solid chunk of tree, or, does it just mean "not hollow", so that any of these are still considered "solid core" -- one solid chunk of tree, different solid pieces joined together, different layers of wood joined together, even an "MDF" core, as long as it's solid ?

I wouldnt use Mdf and as for a solid piece of wood that would be great if you can afford that . Just a solid core will work

The entire room is wine proof. With a wine cooler and double paned glass window . So I thought a solid door without any glass.

No black out shades but no direct sunlight. Can I use just a douglas fir door?

fir door is fine pay more attention to the air tightness no air can get in and out make sure its weather stripped preferably get an exterior grade door.

Lacevedo - Do I understand your wine room has a sealed wine refrigerator/cooler? If so solid thermo doors are not needed. If I misunderstood and the room is climate controlled for the wine you will not only need solid doors but I'd advise against "joined" wood. The humidity can rip apart joinery.

There are so many different styles and options for doors. One of the great things about glass now is that you can get up to about 70% UV protection on a door. You can have wood frame glass insert. Glass and Iron or as suggested a beautiful solid wood.
