i can make a larger version of this photo, but the landscaping is blocking the house in most of the photos that i have

I agree, please don't remove the boxwood. I would not rely upon a bunch of strangers to advise you on the exterior look of your home. Please engage a local architect, this is a big project you are considering. Good luck to you and hope you have great holidays!

Doing a portico could be a problem with that roofline . I agree prune the boxwoods back but I will warn you they will not be pretty for the next 2 yrs . As for the rest we need to see the house from a little closer without the boxwoods blocking the view. If it was my house the first thing I would do is get rid of all the grids on the windows and door and remove the shutters that are all the wrong size. I think the boxwoods across the front are okay but the ones up the walk need to go .

I would rather see a landscape that enhances the architecture of your home which has a more contemporary style, as in the example below .
