So much moss rock..

We just purchased a home that has so much Colorado moss rock on the exterior and a 2 story moss rock fireplace.

The rock is real and I think it would be very difficult to replace.

Does anyone have any suggestions to make the exterior look more updated?

Suggestions would be appreciated.

The rock and the home are beautiful. It is perfect for its surroundings.

    Don't touch it.

I think it looks fine as is, but if you want a different look, try to do it with painting paintable surfaces. You could paint the siding a more trendy color (maybe sagey green?) but the rock itself shouldn't be altered. Is it a yellowy-cream with white trim? I think that can be improved upon, although it is totally okay--no need to rush into anything.

The lighting all seems to be very yellow. Is that an artifact from the photography or what? Get some photos without that glowy weirdness going on and we might be able to offer some color advice.

Landscaping in front of some of the rock expanses might soften it a bit, but it has to be done carefully to go along with the "stuck into nature" look.

The wrought iron railings could be modernized without messing up the house. Just toss them in the basement in case you want to put them back when modern railings are passe. :)

Fori- yes, you are correct on the colors currently painted. The lights aren't actually yellow, but look that way in the pics. Great idea on that railing. I also thought it didn't fit.

The stone is beautiful but if you want to chance the look without removing all of it, try a really deep clean with a power washer or even scraping it with a wire brush to lighten it up. Then a fresh coat of pain on the rest of the house and you have a whole new look while retaining the character of this beautiful home.

I might widen the entry stairs to the front door, they look narrow for the width of the house.

The house and stonework is gorgeous. If you want to change something on the outside, you could change the color of the peach paint.

Can`t understand what you don`t like about the home. Perhaps you could give us some insight.

It's awfully good the way it is. What is it you need to "update"?

I like it too. I'd just make the front steps as wide as the landing and get better rails everywhere not black.

I'm not crazy about so much moss rock. Maybe it's the paint color with the rock. It's a darker cream with lighter cream. I like the suggestions above with more landscaping in front of the walls, wider stairs and new railings. If anyone has any ideas for paint colors, that would be great! Thank you for all your input!
