Meiwa kumquats are near imposible to root cutting. Graft it to something and Plant seed of a grapefruit to graft it to later.

Jenny, I don’t remember exactly, but I would say about a year. I remember the grapefruit bloomed indoors maybe January of this year? I posted about it...I’d have to look up my post for the exact time.

Okay cool. I know I most of my varieties of citrus are blooming right now (like many on the forum that have them inside) and am hoping I can get a few fruit to hold through winter until I can get the trees back outside... and if successful, I'd really have to protect them from a specific pesky squirrel! lol

Cory thankyou again so much, bubble wrap on both sides of the door it is . They are calling for a major polar vortex the 2 weeks right after Christmas so I better get on it . Cory I am not having problems with leaf drop I wish I could help on that . My Kishu dropped over half it's leaves but it's remaining leaves look very green and healthy. My kishu did not put out lot's of new growth this past summer so it's the older leaves that dropped. I have some tree's that have not dropped one leaf like my Minneola and the others maybe a total of 5 leaves per tree . The greenhouse temperature is always bouncing all over the place depending on the temperature outside right now it's 64 tomorrow probably mid 50's with tomorrow's cooler weather. Could be that the tree's love all this fluctuating . The watering doesn't seem to effect the tree's at all. Wish I could help. Do you have supplement lighting in your greenhouse? I have some but not over done and it's been fairly dark in there with snow on the roof the last couple of day's. Thanks again Cory!!!!

Amy your so lucky 3g gold nugget is going to be a very nice tree and I see that you ordered a 88-2 great choice . Montreal Santa's are the best . The Tango is yours Amy they grow so fast . The cocktail supposedly has a very very nice flavor and it's cheaper then the rest . Amy I am not a huge fan of kumquat's sorry very nice of you to offer on the other hand if you ever have success with a Sugar Belle cutting lol. :)

Thank you guys. Brian, I am not having big problems with leaf drop either thus far...keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way. Hobby, I got that tree early 2016 from Harris...it was not expensive. I remember that it was Vladimir who posted about the Rangpur lime and then I ended up getting it...so the tree is named Vladimir ;). I have a beautiful and ripe dekopon that we may eat tomorrow, but it’s upstairs and I was too lazy to walk up to take a pic. I also have lots of nagami and fukushu kumquats along with more calamondin upstairs. My seville orange is in my son’s room again and this year has finally set fruit. It will be next Christmas I suspect when those will be ready. The sudachi is also a roommate of his and has a few ready to pick. Last time I made salmon and put a sudachi mayonnaise on it which was wonderful. I may need to make that again.

Sudachi mayonnaise sounds awesome Laura! And something that I could totally envision having in Japan. Your Rangpur looks great too! What are you going to do with them? I have to say I've been impressed with my tree from Harris. I've had tons and tons of WLD this year but the odd thing is that the temperatures were in the 60s and 70s for my plants inside with plenty of light. Oh well, not going to stress about it. My limequat is literally flushing with new growth and flowers under the same exact conditions, so it's either a lemon thing or it's a FWG-rootstock thing. Next year I'm going to get a Seville just to have sour orange available for rootstock in the future and hopefully that will help.

I purchased a small Minneola tree earlier this year because of your pictures of that gorgeous fruit and harvest.

I am not very skill with a knife and even though it looks so easy on the videos I am sure that it requires a little bit of dexterity. I just ordered a pair of gloves cutting on eBay so I wouldn’t end up cutting my whole hand instead!

I hope yes so you could scratch two varieties on your wishlist (88-2 and xie shan). Finally, I ordered a 4 x9 band pot for my gold nugget instead of 3 gallons. Is a 4 x 9 bigger or smaller than a 1 gallon? I am so confused!

Amy Get yourself a pair of 3.25X readers. I get mine for a dollar at the dollar tree. T-Budding is the best for citrus. I T-budded 4 tangerines and all 4 are still green after 2 weeks 1 day.

I have five Genoa Lemons that should be ready to harvest sometime in late spring /early summer. I clipped a few fruit off that were growing in clusters, so the remaining ones would grow a bit larger. You can see the tree is still producing little fruitlets along the stems.

Lots of little Calamondin fruit ripening on the tree. I already harvested one very ripe fruit and it was delicious. Very sweet, thin peel..A couple Tavares Limequat fruit. This will be the first harvest for this variety and not quite sure when they will be ripe. Tree is still blooming and setting fruit sporadically . I harvested a few Marumi Kumquat fruits around a month ago. Picture below..

Laura, if I get enough juice from the lemons than I plan on making a homemade lemon meringue pie using my mother-in-laws recipe she passed down. My hubby and I loved her pie! I just hope to come close to hers. It won't be the same since it is not made with her own hands but it is the memories that count. . ♡ If I have extra lemon juice than I will make a homemade, pan seared scallop ravioli tossed in a lemon and rosemary butter sauce.. Laura, you're crazy like Brian! Never in my life of coming here have I ever seen so many fruit on a tree under lights of all things!!! How many lights to that one tree? Does it get any south facing sun? You are a Citrus Whisperer in the biggest way. Your talent for these trees is quite impressive..! By the way, bad news, either my electric bill has gone up in price because of the company, of the lights are killing me. My bill was 260 dollars for the first time ever and I question if the lights pushed it up that high or the cold weather which forced me to set a second space heater on in my greenhouse a month earlier..I'll figure it out!! I'm thinking maybe you should set up some kind of bar and serve up lots of drinks with added citrus..By the way, the colors of your trees for being indoors is to die for. Many would kill to get their trees to stay nice and green as yours are!

Brian, I have to say you are KING of citrus, even for the north pole. hey you know, you should invite Santa for a stop over on his way down this way for a good drink in that paradise of yours...haha. Seriously , do you know how many people I have met that live in citrus heaven and yet they can not keep their trees looking as healthy as yours. Having the sun and warm temps on their side, being able to leave their trees outside all year, and in which they have a higher angle of the sun at their advantage, and yet you do it. I am very proud of you. Hopefully you can get the door handle working easier for you with Cory's help. She's pretty creative with ideas and always has been. Hi Laura it really varies 2016 my Minneola produced maybe 7 and it was a very sunny and hot summer I was very disappointed . This past summer the weather was cool and very wet at times and I have a much better crop . I figure I have almost 30 nice sized fruit some very ripe and some almost ripe . Lol Laura didn't I place the side of the tree with the most fruit facing the wall of the GH sort of out of reach so I might have more than 30 , you think I would learn . Have you tried any of your Minneola's ? I think that you will be shocked at how good they taste , they are the most favorite here .

This is what a winter evening is like out my window on the Oregon coast- when it's not raining! It's 40* and lovely. Happy holidays everyone.

Every bunch of 43 CFL lights of 23 watts each will use the same electric as a 1000 watt electric heater. Its the heater not the lights. Anyway, if you didn't have the lights the heater would run more. Same $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I am leaving for 1.5 weeks so . I enjoyed viewing all your pictures. Happy holidays.

Mike, there just ain't no words to describe what I been through the last few days. As far as the sewer line kink......somebody backed too far down in a yard and ran over a clean-out. It busted off the top of it but that's not what caused the clog. What caused the clog was some little kids up there that thought it would be fun to cram a bunch of "God only knows what" down the hole. Come to find out all this happened about a week ago. By the time I'm told, sewage was coming up through the hole and four homes were backed up, with six more that could become involved. I won't go into the nitty gritty lovely details but I finally got through this ordeal. As far as the citrus kink goes......I'm thinking maybe I should just chunk them over the hill and start growing some "miracle anxiety plants". lol

jinnylea - your babies look great! And OMG I am so going to try that recipe! I love scallops and have a rosemary plant I am overwintering inside. Just need some lemons (although maybe next year for my trees...lol).

Angela, terrible. I feel bad for you to have to go through that. Don't toss your trees. The days will be getting longer now and it will get easier as soon as you can get them outside again. If you can just keep them alive and don't expect much growth they will probably recover on their own when you put them out again. Just be careful not to overwater, but don't underwater too as I made that mistake...moist, not soggy......let the top couple inches dry to touch between waterings. Then water well so water drains out bottom holes to clear out fertilizer salt buildup and get rid of dry spots in the media. Don't give up.

Thanks Cory, things seem to have stabilized. I wish the citrus would talk to me like my starfruit tree does. Once I get through this first year learning curve I know things will be a lot better. You are right about the watering, I think I may have been under watering a bit at times too. Well on the bright side I was able to grow some late broccoli through some 20 degree weather with nothing but Walmart bags over their heads. My family will be surprised to have broccoli salad at our Christmas dinner this weekend. Merry Christmas

Thought I'd stop by and say Hi. Everyone's trees are looking really nice and fruitful, nice harvests and gorgeous trees all around. I don't have any citrus pics but thought I would share a nice photo I took when I went hiking this past weekend. This is at the top of Bump and Grind, a hiking trail in Palm Desert on Saturday, we actually had rain for about 10 minutes while hiking. Enjoy and hope everyone has a nice Christmas and New Year.

By the way, it's -3 today on my thermometer and it's only going to get colder. Thank GOD for my thermometer alert that lets me know once the temps drop down to a certain temp down there remotely on my cell phone. I got beeped this a.m so I had to turn the second space heater on. It dropped to 50 degrees this morning in there.
