Look at 'Munstead' a cultivar of Lavandula angustifolia, English Lavender. Shop around. It's very widely available eg here. Although they also offer L stoechas, I would not plant a hedge of it. Its rather tender and you risk losing the lot if you get a cold snap.

The lavandins - x intermedia hybrids - tend to be some of the larger growing cultivars, like 'Grosso' or 'Provence' or 'Fred Boutin'. They are all quite winter hardy and do very well in my climate, which is not very dissimilar to yours.

Good luck, with your hedges, Darren, once they’re planted look into maintenance. Not difficult but trimming the plants over at the appropriate time will help your hedges grow neater.

In my area you could. But the garden centres are full of Christmas tat at the moment. The selection and the weather will be better in spring. If you get them mail order they’ll advise as to the best time. If they won’t don’t buy from them.
