recoil spring

my powermore motor broke the recoil spring. it uses an odd shaped spring. this pic shows the right part which seems to only be online for $25 or so. the briggs spring next to it is available at local mower store. they have never heard of "powermore" stuff. can i heat the spring end with a torch and form the hook shape i need? i have no issue playing with stuff. the briggs spring is $8 at store

What is your engine make and model number? Surely the correct spring can be found for much less than 25 bucks.

751-12418 is recoil assy. Motor? 208cc 5.5 hp? Lowes special. It's a snowblower I can't find an actual pic of spring only for this unit. But the 12418 assy is correct. But I don't want to buy the whole assy

when you search that mtd part#, lot's come in at under 20.00? bending a spring can work. i did it on a old weed whacker, but it was temporary, didn't last long. more extra work. worth buying the right 1. imho.

What website has it for <$20? That part # is the steel cage and rope and t-handle? Cheapest I found was $25 plus $10 shipping. i did find a spring and pulley for a mtd which looks close but nothing for this pulley in pic

i was looking at the pic in the first post. mtd 753-04286. what kind of machine are you working on? searching "powermore" didn't help.

hmm, i get some results for powermore. its a chinese honda clone ohv motor. it is used on big box units like lowes and home depot. perhaps i think it is newer than it really is. storm 5024 or 5hp, 24" cut? the troybilt seems to link a bit with mtd stuff. as long as it is not b&s or tecumseh motors

hi, looks like the engine (parts) are discontinued. if you can get a recoil for 30.00 i would buy it. i don't like sending people to harbor freight but you can probably pick up a engine that'll work. this is a problem with imported engines.

i got it 2ys ago. it had a stripped brass auger gear. it was free. thanks CL. i guess you might say i got my moneys worth. shear pin was fine. the elec starter works fine and it runs "ok". i have been toying with idea to fix recoil eventually. push starter button and push primer a few times and it starts ok i only need the recoil for occasions where it might stall away from garage and power outlet. though dragging unit 20-30' is not hard

hi, i don't use snow blower's, but if the rest of it (the important/dangerous end) works good, then it would be worth while repairing. similar models are still bringing big $$. i bought a pressure washer awhile back that had issues i didn't catch, it had "generac" logo, turned out to need a carb that i could not find?? unidentifiable import engine. ended up parting out.

Being it's a clone engine a Honda recoil or spring may work. They work on a B&S clones anyway. Personally, I can't stand these Honda clones everywhere. Flatheads Forever!

the recoil has to have these 2 ears to engage with the motor drive. i think using a different brand assy may not work. my local hardware does have a b&s spring for $9

this looks like direct replacement. little more money.

some might say why are you wasting time on a $30 fix? just do it. i thought it might be easy to find a spring for a b&s or tecumseh. but you have to go to a small engine catering store. i bet lowes or HD cannot even get a spring

I do know that a Tecumseh spring works in a Yamaha 125 3-wheeler recoil.

i think the springs for weed whippers and small stuff are cheap. like $4. the springs for 5hp motors are in the $9 range. i bet i could use one from a scrap mower if i could find one.

Clone engine recoils vary from engine to engine . Sometimes a local dealer is the easiest fix . They normally have shelves fuel of old new stock .
