I recall seeing a similar looking photo that (I think) Kara posted not long ago. It looked almost like the grafted plant and rootstock had somehow merged together and formed something that was a combination of the two?

Kara, I see echinopsis subdenudata there. What’s the other specie? Assuming there’s only 2. At least this one doesn’t look like a cucumber which survived a bad case of mealies infestation. It’s not as grotesque as the ones in the previous pics.

The other is Echinopsis chamaecereus lutea.

I should give this one a try;). They are both fairly easy too find. Lately I've been seeing E. chamaecereus lutea grafted to Hylocereus.

Maybe after loads of attempts they will become one;).

A chimaera is an organism that consist of two or more types of cells that are genetically different. It's rare but it can happen when grafting two plants together. If a shoot grows from the grafting area it can contain cells from both plants. The result would be chimaera.

They might not be the most beautiful plants but I don't think that's why people are fascinated by them. Being rare and interesting has probably more to do with it.
