crazy about this tile.... but HOW?

So I chose a marble subway tile for my backsplash, and wanted a feature inlay behind my fancy new range. At the tile store, there was a ravishing feature tile with curved edges and brass inlays to play off my cabinet hardware and lanterns. I just can’t figure out if it will work inset into the linear subway pattern. Maybe framed? I have chair rail type molding pieces to work with. I bought ten pieces of the feature tile, figuring on using nine and ruining one :)

Will my installer have fits? Will the transition be too jarring?

Ask your installer. And post photos of samples of both tiles with your grout selection next to all other finish selections like counter cabinet and floor. Kitchen finishes need to be seen ALL together under correct lighting (not store lighting) in order for success. Will both tiles look good with the same grout color as you will have one grout throughout.

I'm not a fan of feature designs behind stoves. Such a dated concept and it rarely looks good enough to justify the cost. In this case, I don't think the curved design of this tile will fit well with the linear subway tile.

I think I would go for either all marble tile, or all of that tile. Skip the accent pieces, and don't try to merge these two together.

You'd do it like this,,,and I would do a Schluter metal edging strip for the transition from one tile to the other. in this picture the border is a pencil liner.
for your water jet accent tiles, I'd do the sleek, low profile Schluter strip. I did it in my shower. I used black, but they have silver, gold, white, etc.

the thicker black edging is outside, and a thinner gold edging is on the inner portion on the niche.

how big of space over the stove are you doing? is your stove like the one I pictured, above? how large is that wall?
