I believe that they hybrid varieties will not grow true. Non-hybrids will probably grow true to type.

I'm currently growing a purple variety from seed, ranging from just showing a spot of green to a couple of inches tall. I did purchase a cloned named variety just in case these fail.

Thanks Jason. I have no idea if this is a hybrid or not. I'll just eat it then lol. I am interested in growing a passion fruit vine for the flowers so I'll go after some seeds from a seller instead.

Like you lisa, I am after the flowers. I started some seeds some time ago and was growing in a small pot in front of a window. I transplanted near an arch in April. By the end of the summer, the vine just overtook the entire arch. I have about a dozen of small flowers, not spectacular unless you do a close up to appreciate the exquisite details. I didn't have time to take a cutting before the frost killed the vine. Then I got a surprise when I cleared away the vine. I actually got a fruit! Not edible because it was damaged by the heavy frost. I do wonder if I had picked earlier, it might be edible.

seeds fresh from the fruit are the best. passionflowers and fruits arent hard to sprout when they are completely fresh, but they lose viability very quickly. so growing from purchased seeds is a bit trickier.

if you have purple fruit passion fruit you have - passiflora edulis.

thats the most common fruit variety, grown commercially.

just soak them in some water, with a bit of their goopy sticky stuff on them, for a few, and then plant them in pots.
