Kitchen Sink Help

Hello, I am just starting my kitchen renovation and finalizing the cabinet order. I've lost a lot of sleep over this design, but it seems my biggest roadblock is the sink. I have always wanted a farmhouse sink, but I only have a 30" cabinet. I can go for the Kohler Whitehaven, but hubby isn't thrilled with the price tag (especially since we are getting a free SS undermount with the granite counter tops). He really likes the idea of free, but I think you get what you pay for. A compromise might be a fireclay sink, but we are both worried about chips and scratches. Plus we can't find many that fit a 30" base, and those that we can have less than stellar reviews. My style is rustic farmhouse, so I don't not want a stainless steel apron sink. The cabinets will be Diamond coconut with amaretto glaze, and I'll install oil rubbed bronze faucet. I can afford the Kohler, but not sure it is worth the investment. Any suggestions / recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Imagine a pallet stacked square with shrink wrapped stainless sinks from China that your fabricator has imported. There's your freebie in the pile.

Get the sink you want, please. A 30" sink will fit into a 30" cabinet, no matter what the sink manufacturer or fabricator says as long as you strap it in place. Search "Not To Kohler Specifications" here please.

Your kitchen sink is a major design decision and not easily replaced. Bite the bullet and pay more for the one you want! It will be there a long, long, time.

The kitchen sink is the most used 'appliance' in most homes. I hate my undermount stainless one and am planning on the Kohler Whitehaven. If any one thing is worth spending extra on, it is this! Invest wisely and get the one you want.

I saved up an extra few months for my Whitehaven and it was worth it. A sink works harder than a fridge so actually, one should spend some money to get a good one that will last, especially when it is under mounted and not easy to change out. My previous cast iron sink lasted 18 years - and still looked good, so I moved it to the basement kitchen. My Whitehaven is almost 2 years old and still looks great - like new. I did get the grills for the bottom.

Go with the Whitehaven. BTW, most countertop fabricators will give you the specs on the free stainless steel sink they offer and you can look at them when you go to pick out your slab of granite. The quality of the "free" sink usually has something to do with the income level of the customer base the fabricator is aiming for.

Yep get the Kohler and donate the ss to habitat for humanity or use it in your laundry or sell on craigslist.

I agree, don't go cheap on the sink and check out Signature Hardware, they have a lifetime guarantee on sinks. I purchased my farmhouse sink from SH and love it.

Don't use the free sink but do get the sink. I don't have an opinion on your Whitehaven sink but my new counters are coming with a new stainless sink which was supposed to be a nice gift from fabricator. I am using my own sink and putting the free sink in the garage. You could also save your free sink for another project: funky garden planter, donate to a second hand store and use as a tax write off, use as a small pet wash or laundry sink. . .

Get the sink you want. Tell your husband, you want to be able to walk into your kitchen and have it take your breath away! The sink is a piece of the puzzle that will do that.

Tell him it's like getting a Lamborghini and having it painted white!
