We recently experienced a kamikaze dishwasher that resulted in an insurance claim. We suspected that at least one of the FOUR layers of flooring in our home had asbestos and it was later confirmed that two did. Our insurance company has paid for the abatement, which was completed last week..

There's a "closet" that was added to our kitchen some time in the 70s or 80s. During my talks with our contractor, I voiced concerns that the flooring ran under those walls and inquired if that would be dealt with. He said whatever he needed to to make me feel better.

So here I am, a week out from the abatement and there's still the two layers of asbestos tile left under the wall for this closet. We're keeping the closet as-is, for now, but I am concerned that ALL of the flooring should have been removed. Is it standard to leave known asbestos tile in a room following an abatement?

Our contractor says it can stay because the tile has been cut flush to the wall. They didn't even try to remove the drywall around this area to get more of it up.

It just doesn't feel right to me, but perhaps this is normal?
