Hi Peter. I have some seedlings too, the youngest ones are 3 months old and are many times bigger then yours. How is your climate, mix, feeding etc...? I water my plants every day and once a week a water soluble fertilizer. Also when sowing I put fertilizer in the middle of the tray or pot.

Geez Pete, I had to laugh when I saw your plants scattered all around your yard. I hope you get on well with the neighbours, because I think soon you're going to have to use their yard for more space. Just how many do you have now?

Your babies look alright in the photos, just slow growth. The weather has been abit off this season, as I'm sure you're well aware. You can fertilise the babies about every two weeks, if you're not already. I tend to use something like "Thrive" on my little babies, as I think they need more nitrogen at this size.

Tip - fertilise them, just after the sun goes down and they have more time to absorb the fertiliser before the sun dries out the soil. :)

Thank Rachael for the tip. how many do i have mmmmmm i dont know i lost heaps over winter (root rot) funny u say about my next door neighbor he has a very large block i keep my boat and caravan in his place he has also said i can put a greenhouse up there to he's a legend he dont want me to pay or nothing all i do is keep the grass cut and tidy. stuart nice plants you have great job. my seedlings have had the worst start to there lives they had the worst infestation of spider mites i have ever had the leaves have started to grow back now but are still peppered with holes they are the hardest to treat because of the curling leaves. RACHAEL karma DR is now putting out single dark red with black boarders its getting back to what it was a double fingers crossed. Pics will come when i get a decent flower:×) thanks Hyn when i get something interesting i will post more SUMMER photos. Lol

Hi Pete, feed "Karma" with that flowering fertiliser that I recommended, that you bought and it should return to double flowers in a little while. I would probably feed it about every 2 weeks.

Also in the post above you said your seedlings have curling leaves and are peppered with holes in the leaves. That's unusual...are you sure you have spider mites as spider mites don't usually cause curling leaves/small holes. I might be misunderstanding what you wrote, but maybe you could get a close up photo of what you mean/curling leaves, and we could all have a look for you and make sure it's not something else attacking your seedlings :)

Sorry Rachael i didn't put in that the hard to treat seedlings are the DHA with the curling leaves and they dont have big holes they are sting holes i will take some pics today sorry for any misinformation im not thinking straight. :×)

Im excited my wife has just lobbed home with a greenhouse for me for Xmas its the same as Agarttas I'm so stocked will poot pics up once erected whoo hoo no more root rot in winter :×))))))

Woohoo Peter, your plants will love the greenhouse. Watch they dont cook in summer inside. I have to open back and front window, and roll up the zipper door, I made a fly uv screen that I put at the door like a curtain.

Hi Pete, ahhh DHA seedlings...that makes more sense, I should have realised that's what you were talking about with the curled leaves.

Yes, it does look like a nasty batch of spider mites, and they must be a pain to remove from the DHA. I would keep the DHA seedlings seperate from all your other seedlings in case they are aggravating the problem, (hiding the little suckers).

Something you need to be aware of when treating spider mites is that you need a Miticide to kill them and not an insecticide that says it also treats mites. They are NOT the same thing. It might be worthwhile trying the 'Eco Oil' that Agartta recommended. You will notice on the label that it says it is a miticide and insecticide. That is what you need to look for on the front of the bottle. It needs to say miticide in the title of the product.

You said in another post, that you've tried Eco neam and Yates Mavrik on your plants....both of these are insecticides and not miticides, even though they say that they treat mites on the label. Hopefully this info will cut through the confusion regarding the best product to try. *Also you need to spray both on top and underneath your leaves to treat spider mites effectively.* I hope this information helps you eradicate your spider mites.....And congrats on the Xmas greenhouse :)

Agartta put greenhouse up yesterday in the heat it is great going to put shelves in today going to use treated pine boards .Rachael that may be the breakthrough i was going to get some next week i think i have every brand of poison known to man kind the maverick has made a dent in the buggers but there is still some left i have to move them into the greenhouse today it will be a great time to treat them. Family coming over for Xmas day the nieces and nephews will be playing with water balloons so i don't want the stray shot to damage my seedlings .

Hi Rachel and Peter. I have also tried all diff other pest control stuff for my other plants as well, as I also grow vegis and a few truit trees. So far only that Eco-oil worked as Rachel also suggested. I really highly recommend it.

Sue how do u buy off sunkiss DR on FB.Agartta and Rachael i have given the spider mites there first dose of bio oil to morning its like a real battle with these bugs i will give them another blast on the weekend. No progress on the shelves in the greenhouse i have all the timber but im back on crutches again so i have to wait till i kick them off again to start.

Okay Jade ,generally she has a sundy morning sale or afternoon but you have to get in pretty quick. Just email her and tell her what you would like I picked up a black off her and some nice yellows mainly triples or quads all seedlings she sells. Spider mites Peter, I thought this imformation might help you Can you get on FB AND GO to Christine Standen Mackay Desert Roses and join her group She know a lot about Desert Roses and she had a article today about spider mites She has written that she had a operation in Brisbane and spider mites attacked her roses about 70% of them .She has had not much trouble with mites before as she decided to use William Burtons Flea Shampoo a go. I t called Fidos fLEA shampoo for cats and dogs ,actually I use it on my dog. once a week for 3 weeks she sprayed it on her roses late afternoon at a ratio 10mls per litre.She used a 5 litre pump spray and sprayed under and over leaves . After 2 weeks she saw mites on leaves but where dead THIS WORKS.. She has told members if they have a serious mite problem use this dog shampoo . You can get it at a pet barn for about 12 dollars a bottle. Sorry Peter this is like a letter but thought you might like this article to help you with mites.
