When you say you have narrowed it down to your three favourites, I presume the brown in the bottom left corner is off your list...and yet, that is the one I would recommend. Good luck!

I like the top right one the best.

the one on the far right. you have chosen many neutrals, so if you go with the top left or the middle, the floor is gonna jump out at you like a jack in the box. Keep the neutrals on the same intensity level so they flow together. If your color palate was bold, & bright, or had contrasting colors, I would probably choose differently. The top right is the safe color to blend with your palate.

Also, what kind of traffic will this area be receiving i.e. pets, sand, wet weather.... Another option would be to use a HDP (high definition porcelain) such as Florida tiles Berkshire, or nutura. As well as some lines from Artistic Tile. The Porcelain is a great option in regards to scratching, expanding, staining.... etc. These products look so natural but provide a no maintenance surface. But depending on the colors in the room I like the Top Right, and bottom left. For a cottage style look I love the top left.

Brown below the light gray, more timeless and less trendy, oak maybe?

I would go with the third one. The first one seems beachy or shabby chic and the second one is a darker version. The third one to me is timeless. Good luck :)

Without seeing your choices I would pick the one on far right based on your description. They are all very nice though. Good luck with your build! :)

Timeless browns. You will change your wall and carpet colors down the road. Don't go with a floor color that will have to be redone as well.

It depends on your style. If you are contemporary, the white. From the photo, my first choice is early American. In that case the darker the better.

If you tend to change styles, in which I do from time to time, then go with the alder color...:)

With limited information and no view of the room, I would go with the top right.

Medium Brown is "in" and best choice to last a long time. The very dark brown from a few years ago is going out, the grey is too trendy. And brown and grey do go.

What I always like to tell our clients is to bring your kitchen counter, cabinets and tile samples with you when choosing flooring. If you could post a picture including those, I think we would be able to give you a more accurate answer. I would choose the paint colour last, try to choose something that will pull all the colours of your kitchen and flooring together. It's easy to match paint to floor instead of floor to paint because paint comes in so many colours and with flooring your choice is limited. I've been a partner with our family business (Marcel Degagne Carpentry) for a few years now and this method has helped me choose finishings for the model homes we've built! =) Here's a sample... I chose the kitchen cupboards and counter tops first, the hardwood floor I pulled from the kitchen counter top (It's a light grey, black and brown mixture) plus, the flooring has the darker colour wood grain that picks up the dark cupboards. To finish off, the beige walls is neutral and ties everything together... hope this helps!

That light floor reminds me of the light pickled cabinets from the 80s. Yuk

We have a very similar color scheme and chose to go with a honey colored Birch. People always love the color of our floors and I feel like they are a timeless color. You can see them here...

Do medium brown. With your dark cabinets you will have a nice contrast. It doesnt matter what color your walls are.

Based on your colors listed above, Go with the bottom right.... the medium brown the top shades are too grey and will make everything too weary. The light oak color is also ok.. but my second choice. I notice there is no cherry brown... that would work nicely too.

Smerini, what is your esthetic? Are you going for a modern contemporary vibe in the house with modern fixtures in nickel? If so stay with the grey flooring (top right) and do not let others dissuade you from this decision. It is very now. Does this pix appeal to you?

LOVE the colour it's all sitting on...but without more info...it's tough to choose....I agree with going timeless...the pic above by Serra Design of the entry way shows how a beautiful dark colour can be used very well! LOVE the choices in that photo Serra Design!

Thanks everyone for your input... Serra Design: Yes that picture is very much my style! Our cabinet color is very similar to that table color. We have selected nickel fixtures throughout the house. Here are the 3 hardwoods from the hardwood website. I personally am leaning towards the third one now.

I doubt we are seeing the true colors as computer screens do not reflect the actual color. Pick whatever is a medium brown. Plus it would be a nice contrast if you already have dark cabinets in. Trust me, grey will be out in 10 years. Keep it to the walls and fabrics

While I love a grey hardwood I think it's too trendy . . . grey and a warm wood tone would be absolutely beautiful . . . because you are covering your entire floor with hardwood I'd caution you against going grey - the same thing is going to happen to grey that happened to beige . . . it will soon be out of style and wood tones NEVER age themselves! I'd go with the warm tone in the bottom left hand corner of the original picture!

Need to really see the room ,but for me I would go with medium to dark brown wood floor, they are more timeless then the trendy colored ones and if you want to ever change the color scheme or the color goes out of style ,which it will, then it is a big expense to change hardwood , However the medium to dark brown colored floors never go out of style.

Hi Smerani, It is a little warmer looking than the above pix. I would like to see it a shade darker? What species wood are you choosing for the flooring, it will have an impact on the color and how it takes the stain. I personally like Hickory. Or is this engineered flooring or would you be staining them on site? I really like the look of Sisal with gray, see pix (never mind the chair design ), Would love to see your other selections. Glass tiles, and carpeting.

Sierra: we are selecting hard maple wood as the others are a very large upgrade and out of our budget. I attached a pic of what would be the next shade. It is called "earth" (much more brown to it). The sisal looks great! We are thinking of blue accents too!

I would try to stay in line with the style of the home, for instance, if it is at the beach, go lighter, If it is an old farm house style, maybe a rich wood, personally I am not a fan of grey anything, unless you re at the beach, and use it wisely. When I think of the countryside, I think of rich in darker shades. I don't see grey walls working with dark cabinets. One thing I have learned, the hard way..do not rush into picking out everything at once, look at a lot of pictures, and magazines, online etc. TAKE YOUR TIME! I spent a month making sure the paint I picked out was what I wanted. Then another month or two picking out my flooring. I am patient after making costly mistakes.

Definitely not the grey, it is too matchy and when you want to redecorate in a few years, you are stuck with the grey which will dictate any future colour choices. Go with the same colour as the cabinets. Dark brown is pretty timeless and will not be 'dated' in just a few years. Dark wood also grounds a room very nicely and makes the furnishings pop nicely.

Hi Smerani, You are in a good direction, I really like what you have going on, keep the course. I am adding some ideas for entry stone tiles and or master bath stone tiles , notice the amazing contrast to the dark flooring, as always 18" x 18" should be considered. And a color for a bedroom plus this amazing entry hallway again with the use of sisal.

I would not do grey walls, we just bought a place that had grey, and after a month of choosing paint color, we covered them. What a difference, and it feels lively instead of drabby grey.
The picture you put above with the blue is beautiful. Be careful choosing Grey.

Hi Ok these cabinets remind me of the last kitchen I did, we used an obsidian finish on the lower cabinets and I mixed a custom white wash for the upper cabinets, I had to remove kitchen pix, they are to be published and exclusive to the publisher.

This is what dark floors and dark cabinets can look like. Or was that the kitchen tile above with the glass back splash?

Just a note since I've been there and done that and have 3/4" solid cherry in part of my home (3,000/sf) on a 3/4" base nailed ... dark is very dramatic, gets tons of comments from visitors if you wish to impress, but depending on the lighting in your home they show dust & dirt very, very quickly ... if you plan to have a regular a cleaning service or if you love to clean allot, then you'll be fine. Just an FYI.

Sierra, those pics look amazing! the tile i had with the basksplash will only be in the mudroom and pantry (closed off with doors).

With all these tips, I think this would be a good option.

I"m very curious to see what your final selection is! We have almost exactly the same color scheme and we keep going back and forth on the hardwood selection. I've attache our color scheme and our current hardwood selection.

Good to see someone has very similar tastes! I'll take that as a good sign so far! I like your choice of hardwood. I think this pic attached is the closest I have to your selection. Ill definitely post once we make a decision. Please do the same if you decide to go with a different hardwood!

fuzzypill, your glass backspash/countertop have grey/green undertones. Do not go with the red flooring. Go with the brown.

check out photos on-line...some of the most striking rooms have a light/dark contrast. If you cabinets are very dark and are in the room where your hardwood is, a lighter floor will probably look great. It would balance out your light counter tops too.
