freedomplace1 hoping to bring some color into the room. Its a fairly big room so it needs some warmth IMO - once curtains and rug are there I think it will feel more homey

You can really go any number of ways with color.

The choices are endless for rugs. Don't even think about pillows etc, until you choose a rug. Some ideas:

pamm, I liked your vibrant top rug, which to me would 'take over' and not echo brick... graphic and chunky like the furniture.

The second softly striped one was casual.... maybe too much like the chairs... ? For a LR, a bit more striking might be nice - not sure mine were either!

So lots of brown in the room. Starting to like the idea of adding at least some blue to the room. The room is right off the kitchen and we are looking for a casual cozy look. The living room on the other side of the house has a more "formal" look

Your room is very pretty. What sticks out to me is how heavy your leather is in contrast to everything else. In order to balance it I would suggest making sure your textiles (curtains, rug, pillows) are a similar heavy weight. Light and airy will not work. I know you don’t want to repaint but when the time comes, a darker wall color will help, too.

Hi Pamm, If you want a blue rug, in a graphic print, with saturated color, I think the trellis rug Havingfun posted - that style - could work with your leather pieces.'

the one thing i will say is i do not recommend lights to lighten, you need much color either equal liike the dk blue and white or a melon and aqua. straight light looks likea white hole.

Bring in dark brown in other pieces or accents so the sofa/dk brown looks intentional:

Consider an accent wall in a dark color:

bold navy, neutral zebra print.

Light colored, solid pillows. against a backdrop of dark sofas/furnishings are, of course, used in design all the time.

Below is the exact image of light blue lumbar pillow I used in visual, and this is actually how pillow is presented on CB2 site - shown with a backdrop of very dark leather.

Aim is to sell pillows... so don't think the intent was to present pillow as a ''white hole.''

I tend to lean more neutral too. The good thing is there are so many patterns and textures you can still go neutral and add some color elsewhere! The cowhides could look really good with the leather....

the dark brown going on, so imo a tastefully transitional rug with some color is best. Not too wild! but with a color you'd love to look at [in art, lamps, etc..]

i love the hares! Sorry, i meant light as in white, pale pink, etc. that blue, while fairly light is still more color saturated then many colors.

Neutral is great, do you have artwork? Most feel it is boring in a short period if you do not have other focuses of color, etc.
