Trachelospermum jasminoides is everywhere here so I wanted something slightly different, but it's a good back up option as it certainly loves the climate. I'll look up that clematis, thank you for the suggestion.

I have cut back the passionflower but the result is a rather bare trellis, which is why I'm looking for something to keep it company!

Passiflora will strangle everything else. You could possibly put a low growing plant that spilled downwards over the sides of the container in with it since passies grow up and the other plant spills downward they might be happy together. Otherwise, I would just use a gardenia or jasmine in a separate pot.

I have a few passiflora growing in with very vigorous thorny climbing roses and the passiflora still will reach out with tendrils and choke off the rose blooms lol. Its a daily chore to keep everything in check.

If you insist on another vine that is fragrant to grow in with the passie you could plant white moonflower vine. They are night bloomers that are very fragrant and just as aggressive as the passiflora. Just plant them together and let them 'duke it out' or you will have to check them daily to make sure they aren't murdering each other lol. Make sure your seedling moonflower is getting enough sunlight and not too shaded from the passionflower while its small.

I grow mine with Mexican Flame vine. It is a twining vine and they grow very well together and protect each other from cold.

But are they in a container together?
