You need to decide if you are going to paint the cabinets first and if so what color. I Have similar cabinets and chose cream subway tile but might have done differently if my cabinets had been painted.

Jhmarie, you did a great job on your kitchen. I’m a big fan of white or off-white subway tile and understated granite patterns.

I just learned that big paint companies like Sherwinn-Williams and Dunn-Edwards have free color consultants. Maybe you could take a pic of your granite in and ask her to help you choose paint for the cabinets. I had a great experience with my local DE color consultant!

I second or third the subway tile suggestion. Perfect for what you have already! You could add gray grout to class it up and keep it looking new longer.

Gray is big right now, and so are two-toned cabinets, like white for the uppers and gray for the lowers or island/peninsula. You could pull the gray from your granite for your lower cabinets. It may sound drab but it could tie into your farmhouse look beautifully. Then you can play with colored stools or other accessories.

Also, if you don't love the counters you might get free estimates for quartz or whatever it is you would love. It's a bummer to make everything match something you don't love just because it was there when it wouldn't have been that much to get something you really love.

Take the cabinets white or stain them darker -- an espresso, black or dark grey. Then choose a single color rather than the mosaic for your splash. This kitchen was a light finish -- not sure if it was intended to be a light wood or variation on a pickled/white-washed finish, but we painted the cabinets white, replaced the counters with granite (this is Dallas White) and did a taupe subway splash with a matching grout to keep is calm and simple. Those may not be the colors you chose, but I would use that approach so your granite is not fighting the splash. If you go darker on the cabinets, stay light on the splash -- wither tile or possibly a metal finish . If you do white, I would stay in the mid to light tones -- but I like splashes that reflect light.

Thanks. I'm going to paint but not sure if we want griege or cream to match the trim. The cabs have curves so hubby was wanting to glaze but it makes it too antique for a rustic theme . We want subway type but having a hard time finding one that hubby and I both like so trying to bounce off ideas.

we did a great remodel

on old house but used glazed cram factory cabs, wild rice ceaser stone , and bedrosians metallic backed subway in cream.

we tried a tile from that lot and the metallic looked horrible with this grabite .the current backsplash has glass and stone but they used black grout and didn't go far enough up so we have to hit the whole backsplash and start over .

The issue is I like modern grays and Greige but this darn granite is so hard to match. I think previous owner picked it to match the honey oak:(. It has some gold in it and this house we don't want copper or gold

Above and below pic is old house we did . It's my dream type kitchen but the house didng for our needs . So we sold it. But I like farmhouse industrial without the sterile or cold feeling. And some traditional elements ( hubby picked the fancy cabinets not me. I like shaker)

our new house was only partially renovated with granite, pulls , and appliances and we are doing the same tile throughout.

We are def keeping the granite . It's extensive . We have 2 butler pantry bars. And it's new (2014). We spent 6k on the ceaserstonr in above small small kitchen so no way are we hauling away newer granite. It would be more then 6 k in another cheap granite. Probably 12k for non silestone like Cambrian or Cesar stone ....

so we gotta work with it.

the above small kitchen was done in 2013. So we want minimal money and work to make our new place our style. We changed the knobs so far... it's all can lighting so we aren't doing pendants anytime soon.. and we will do the same as the old house if we decide to.

Here is the subway I like ... and what colors of gray would work here? Thinking dark island but hard to match gray with this granite( I'm sure it's a level A-B color choice ). But in tan not wool. Tan is a bit lighter and gold

Got any color swatch ideas that would go with aria ivory trim? Note all the house trim is ivory not white so I have to find more earthy grays.

Oh and only light cab ideas. There is no kitchen window and it gets super dark in there. Want to lighten the top but not opposed to two tone just afraid for trends that leave ..
