Separate from the company, learn about the upgrades you should do to child proof things, e.g., extra heavy hardware and, if the upper cabs are a concern, a vertical support that splits e.g., a 30" wide cabinet. My new cabinets have Blum hardware, heavy duty on 30" wide drawers. My contractor raved about their quality and the durability of the vertical supports. BTW, IKEA also uses Blum, but probably not heavy duty.

Also, if you do a counter overhang, even if you're told that it doesn't require supports, add heavy duty ones, properly spaced. Even though this is not a concern for me, my contractor builds things that are indestructible, so I bought some of theirs http://www.countertopbracket.com/default.asp

Finally, don't skimp on handles and be sure to buy extras. Ask the cabinetmaker or contractor is there is a way to reinforce the place where they attach.
